The writing is definitely meant for high schoolers and Y.A.s, but bonus points for smoothly integrating/talking about important bisexual issues. Happy the main character was bi and the word bisexual was used in the book.

Story is predictable and performance is average. Solid read, but nothing to write home about.

Everything is great about the story! Would recommend. The narration is tough for the first few chapters but is wonderful once the narrators gets settled in — stick with it! Turns out to be a great book/story!

The book opens with scene that’d likely be triggering for many survivors of Sexual Assault, or family members of someone who survived SA. Unfortunately the book is not written in a way to utilizes SA trauma in a positive way (as in, reversing stereotypes or something else productive). It feels like it’s used as a tool to make the book’s plot more shocking and to attempt to draw connections between the victim and main character. That connection is crafted shottily at best. From my perspective the author writes these traumatic scenes and other related to it from research on the topic, not lived experience. Which makes it feel disjointed and again, not truly purposeful to the main plot.

Overall though, the plot has wayyyy to many holes and is poorly laid out. The writing itself is cheesy and unimaginative. It feels like a traumatic, adult version of a shitty teen fiction. The ending is unsatisfying. And while the book follows mostly female characters, they’re all written about in cheesy, stereotypical ways, and don’t have a depth of character at all.

Also, incredibly frustrating that the victim’s main trait in the book is her beauty & everyone seeming shocked she got into law school. The only thing characters kept saying in the book is how surprised such a pretty & smart girl got murdered. Like GUYS COME ON??? Any other adjectives in the English language to describe a woman by!!! GOOD GRIEF.

Feels like it was written by a man who isn’t in touch with women or SA survivors. Just soo soo bad on so many levels.

Performance is robotic and falls flats.

2 stars bc the author did manage to keep me invested enough in the victim & who killed her, that I did finish the book.

Overall, there is a wealth of knowledge to come form this book. Nothing that is necessarily revolutionary, but solid information nonetheless. Would be great for a small business owner with little to no knowledge of the technical aspects/theory behind marketing or wants a to completely refresh their approach. The consistent pushing of the author’s products does get annoying — I wish they’d release a second volume with out that. Good audio performance that is easy to listen to!
