The over all story is good if you can get past it's scatter and sporadic layout. oh don't worry there are more intermission than chapters and that's not annoying at all.

As for narration she did a wonderful job as always.

there are good parts to this story like the magic system being more unique than most and they did great on setting up the villain(s). however the main character erratic in his behavior going from daredevil to mopping coward who will not defend himself or his friends.

Good story, ok writing, and bad narrator

I enjoyed the story but there are some character interactions that seem odd but are easily overlooked. The world building is well done with hints of more to come without overstating or explaining from the limited exposure to isolated regions.

The writing has some really annoying spots where things are explained and not experienced. Several times people explain or even state there emotions instead of them being portrayed in there actions. Other times things are written with as many words as possible or just repeated statements of the same thing stated just slightly differently as if pounding in makes it more important.

I do not like this narrator but I can put up with him most of the time. He can't do different voices but he tries to and it just makes sound whiny. I had a hard time trying to figure out how to say what annoyed me about his overall style but after seeing other reviews the one that fits best is sing-song. No mater what is happening it comes off as a little girl skipping down a road without a care in the world. There are life and death battles and even a guy getting mauled by a monster and it comes off like that little girl just stepped in a puddle and is now giving her skirt a little pout before continuing on.

the narrator is ok except for what he does with any skill is referenced. it's like he wanted to sound like an monotone computer screaming the skill name and then recorded it to be replayed any time it came up. this includes in the middle of someone talking in which case he breaked the sentences flow and then blared out the skill to then go back to the person talking.

the first 3/4 were good with a couple of choices that didn't seem like something the characters would do but not far fetched either. Then we get to the conclusion/ main conflict and the MC and his side make every wrong choice possible to drag it out and make it "more exciting." The truth is the author uses every cliche and trope possible laying out bad one liners and monologing. The bad guy recovers from and/or dodges every deathblow and then lays on a line I can only see being the author bragging about how exciting they made the fight. The wrap up at the end is exactly what you would expect save for a little twist at the end that I'm surprised gets explained.
As for the narrator he did a great job.

I would suggest it to anyone who has read his other series but not if they haven't.

I have enjoyed Andrews Rowe's books and takes on magic. His other stories flowed well and told a linear story with some flash backs as needed. This story however seems line he took a bunch of short stories and tried to put them all into one with out any changes. The main story is great but he has a lot of others crammed into it. I'm not sure if he was trying for a new style or if he was trying to build more of the world or just wanted to get some story content he liked out.
