Historia
When Gyre Price lied her way into this expedition, she thought she’d be mapping mineral deposits and that her biggest problems would be cave collapses and gear malfunctions. She also thought that the fat paycheck - enough to get her off-planet and on the trail of her mother - meant she’d get a skilled surface team, monitoring her suit and environment, keeping her safe. Keeping her sane. Instead, she got Em. Em sees nothing wrong with controlling Gyre’s body with drugs or withholding critical information to “ensure the smooth operation” of her expedition.

A cracker of a book
Revisado: 10-03-21
Big thumbs up from me. A great story. The fact that caves give me the jim jams, added to the terror of it all. I don't scare easily, so well done author. The narration was easy to listen to, and the melodic tone lured me into a false security.

Historia
'To play the country-game, we have to choose a country. Everybody wants to be the USA and Britain and Canada and Australia and Switzerland and them. Nobody wants to be rags of countries like Congo, like Somalia, like Iraq, like Sudan, like Haiti and not even this one we live in – who wants to be a terrible place of hunger and things falling apart?' Darling and her friends live in a shanty called Paradise, which of course is no such thing. It isn’t all bad, though. There’s mischief and adventure, games of Find bin Laden, stealing guavas, singing Lady Gaga at the tops of their voices.

Our hunt for guavas!
Revisado: 03-09-14
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Yes. It is an understated child's view of life in a vulnerable situation.
What was one of the most memorable moments of We Need New Names?
Stealing guavas. It reminded me of stealing apples when I was young.
What does Robin Miles bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
Intonation and articulation of the language speak. I'm a big fan of language in its many forms, particularly when it gives life to a character as Robin Miles did.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
The book made me laugh and cry. I grew up in an unsettled Britain, ie; IRA, civil riots. It just reaffirmed my view that I had it great, no doubt, compared to African children being subjected, and still, to violence and abuse. However, the characters are there to hold you up, and make you laugh and smile through their cheekiness. That's children for you.Resilient.

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?
Highly recommend it,but I am bias. A big B.W.A. fan. Includes the short story
Who was your favorite character and why?
The robot teddy, of course. Creepy!
What about Arthur Blake’s performance did you like?
Fantastic. Great intonations and humorous delivery of character dialogue.
Was Best SF Stories of Brian W Aldiss worth the listening time?
Yes.Very much.
Any additional comments?
The only disappointment and what I think spoiled a great listen was the audible page turning, plus hearing another muffled reading from what seemed another room at times.
