Have you heard that language is violence and that science is sexist? Have you read that certain people shouldn't practice yoga? Or been told that being obese is healthy, that there is no such thing as biological sex, or that only White people can be racist? Are you confused by these ideas, and do you wonder how they have managed to challenge the logic of Western society? In this probing volume, Helen Pluckrose and James Lindsay document the evolution of the dogma that informs these ideas, from its coarse origins in French postmodernism to its refinement within activist academic fields.

Powerful refutation of "theories" by groups that discount science and reason in favor of subjectivism.

Why don't folks see that stockbrokers can't predict the future? After all, people scoff at astrologers and tarot card readers, but if some guy in a suit says he is a market analyst, people can't wait to hear his insider advice for what to do during a stock run or slump. Investment adviser Mark Matson calls these so-called experts what they are: bullies. They are bullies because they line their own pockets by pushing mom-and-pop investors into taking risks they don't fully understand.

Lives Changed
Revisado: 07-07-22
I've personally witnessed people experiencing profound changes in their lives based on the principles shared in this book. In the interest of full disclosure, the author is a friend and mentor. In my own life, I've gone from being an obsessed trader, with little time for much else, to enjoying a full and complete life, with time for those I love. Today, I seek to help others achieve peace of mind around money and investing as a coach working with Matson Money. I hope this review is helpful to you and I wish you a world of success.

Historia
In Race Against Time, Mitchell takes listeners on the twisting, pulse-racing road that led to the reopening of four of the most infamous killings from the days of the Civil Rights Movement, decades after the fact. His work played a central role in bringing killers to justice for the assassination of Medgar Evers, the firebombing of Vernon Dahmer, the 16th Street Church bombing in Birmingham, and the Mississippi Burning case. Mitchell reveals how he unearthed secret documents and found long-lost suspects and witnesses, building up evidence strong enough to take on the Klan.

At least three movies could be made from this book
Revisado: 05-02-22
Jerry is arguably the most dogged investigative reporters the field has ever produced. His work has led to the conviction of homegrown terrorists and serial killers, providing a measure of justice for their victims, their loved ones, and society at large.
I asked Jerry the other day what he's working on now. He just smiled and said he's working on a few things with his publisher. I asked him why, after all this along with a new state flag, the state's largest reservoir carries the name of a white supremacist former governor named in this book. He allowed it was a good question. I believe it's time to #RenameTheRez if not long past time. You'll see why in this book. You'll learn how change is proceeding in the south as the arc of a moral universe, in the words of Dr. King, bends toward justice.

Worthy
Revisado: 12-22-21
I hated it for the first half to three-quarters because it was so unsettling; yet, beyond that, I came away grateful for truths about life often revealed in fiction.
I subtracted a star because the reader mispronounced the name of the comet Kohoutek repeatedly. A seemingly small thing in an otherwise excellent performance that could have easily been researched, I remember nights watching it pass by in '73 among friends all with dilated pupils.

Historia
Prayer is simply talking with God. Nonetheless, the grown men who followed Jesus felt as if they had something yet to learn. As true disciples, they wanted to pray just as their Rabbi did. In ancient Judaism, disciples sought not only to learn their master's teachings and interpretations; they endeavored to imitate their rabbi in every detail. Rabbi Yeshua taught, A disciple is not above his teacher, but everyone when he is fully trained will be like his teacher (Luke 6:40). What does prayer look like in a Jewish context? How did Jesus pray?

Prayer is often talked about but not well taught. This is a remarkably concise and in depth teaching that helps provide the essential Hebraic context to prayer.

In this day when literally anyone can publish a book, I'm reminded by this work that there are authors and there are writers. Not every author is a writer. This book proves it!

In his most provocative and practical book yet, one of the foremost thinkers of our time redefines what it means to understand the world, succeed in a profession, contribute to a fair and just society, detect nonsense, and influence others. Citing examples ranging from Hammurabi to Seneca, Antaeus the Giant to Donald Trump, Nassim Nicholas Taleb shows how the willingness to accept one's own risks is an essential attribute of heroes, saints, and flourishing people in all walks of life.

An examined life well lived
Revisado: 09-24-17
If it is as is said that the unexamined life is not worth living, then Hitch on both the meat and marrow of it. In this work, he attempts to slay sacred cows on seemingly all sides and demonstrates the power of intellect, logical methods of thinking and command of language. One reading seems only enough to whet one's appetite to read it again.
