Historia
With Transformed by Birth, unabridged and read by the author, Dr. Britta Bushnell has created the transformative, intelligent, and empowering pregnancy and childbirth guide you’ve been waiting for. This audiobook embraces birth as a rite of passage in which you open to the unbidden, embody your own wisdom, and gain freedom from limiting beliefs. Parents giving birth today do so within a society highly influenced by underlying ideals - including a need for control and certainty, vilification of pain, and reverence for intellectual knowledge and technology, among others. Dr. Bushnell brings clarity and awareness to these foundational ideals.

Made for a less traumatic birth
Revisado: 10-18-21
This book made me understand what happens physiologically and chemically during pregnancy and birth. It even inspired me to hire a doula, which was the best decision I made! It helped me to write a comprehensive birth plan and made me feel confident advocating for myself. Highly recommend.

Historia
Rooted in her experiences growing up in an evangelical Christian family, Jamie Lee Finch’s You Are Your Own offers an overview of evangelicalism and the painful confusion and anxiety experienced under its demands. Finch explores the mechanisms of trauma and how fundamentalist denominations match the patterns connected with PTSD. She elaborates on the doubt, guilt, fear, and grief that haunt those leaving the evangelical faith and offers an approach to help them recover healthy self-worth and resilience.

Fantastic writing
Revisado: 10-18-21
The author mirrors my own experience growing up in an Evangelical Christian cult and how I left and the emotions and trauma I still have from the indoctrination. Excellent writing. Short but concise. It is hard to find therapists who truly understand the nuances of the cult and either dismiss the experience entirely or have backgrounds of Fundamentalism and can’t help but try to use those tactics in session. It discusses PTSD and symptoms one can experience after years of being told your body is not your own. It also discusses the author’s process toward healing. This is a breath of fresh air. Highly recommend.

"True belonging doesn't require us to change who we are. It requires us to be who we are." Social scientist Brené Brown, PhD, LMSW, has sparked a global conversation about the experiences that bring meaning to our lives - experiences of courage, vulnerability, love, belonging, shame, and empathy. In Braving the Wilderness, Brown redefines what it means to truly belong in an age of increased polarization.

Excellent words

I love this author’s heart. This book spoke to me as I also tend to be on the outside of groups due to not aligning with the “normal.” It’s totally okay to be this person as long as you can still sit with people who may think differently and find human connection despite differences.

There was a lot of repetition of the 5 s’s. Kind of felt sales pitchy at points. However, I feel like I learned some things and the research was interesting. I really appreciated the signs and symptoms and resources for PPD at the end of the book. Was a short listen. Finished it in 2 days.

Historia
Winter is coming. Such is the stern motto of House Stark, the northernmost of the fiefdoms that owe allegiance to King Robert Baratheon in far-off King's Landing. There Eddard Stark of Winterfell rules in Robert's name. Far to the north, behind the towering Wall, lie savage Wildings and worse - unnatural things relegated to myth during the centuries-long summer, but proving all too real and all too deadly in the turning of the season. Yet a more immediate threat lurks to the south, where Jon Arryn, the Hand of the King, has died under mysterious circumstances....

Fantastic story, great narrator, hooked!
Revisado: 08-22-12
Where does A Game of Thrones rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
It's one of my favorites due to the incredible writing and the enthusiasm of the narrator. His voice meshed perfectly with the book.
What was one of the most memorable moments of A Game of Thrones?
When Bram gets pushed out of the tower window by Jamie Lannister.
Which character – as performed by Roy Dotrice – was your favorite?
I can't say, he does a different voice for each one of the characters which distinguishes them. This book can be difficult to follow, but it helps to have the consistency of the narrator's voices for each character. His voice reminds me of a salty sea captain. Love it! Gotta have it!
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
I've already seen the HBO series so I knew what was coming as far as major plot points. There were several points where I flt connected to the characters and then the were killed off. All I know is I am not waiting until my next credit comes in, I just bought Clash of Kings.

Entertaining
Revisado: 02-28-12
Would you listen to The Witching Hour again? Why?
It was a decent read. Not as gripping as some of her other books. A nice short read. The reader's voice kind of bugged me. I don't think I'd read it again.
What didn’t you like about Joyce Bean’s performance?
It was a little cheesy and her voice is rough on the ears.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
No.
