The love story detracted from the book. Not necessary and rudimentarily written. Do not recommend.

The narration was pretty good, but the storyline was lacking. Seemed like I had heard all this before. Dialogue is weak in many places. Didn’t meet its potential.

Katherine Nichols knew she’d had too many drinks, but they were only going a short distance. “There’s no traffic anyway,” Eve had pointed out. And they'd had such a great night out, the two of them. Even now, driving them home and knowing she shouldn’t, seemed almost mischievous. All part of the fun. Not anymore.

Great tips for on and off the field
Revisado: 03-05-24
I love opportunities to learn leadership techniques and philosophies from people like Coach Saban. I wish the author had not included micro aggressions against Native Americans though. No need to include a phrase much less twice. And the narrator mispronounced a few things here and there. Otherwise it’s an excellent essay on Saban.

He explores how Black and Indigenous peoples have always resisted and struggled for freedom, sometimes together, and sometimes apart.

Historia
Marlena Altizer Durst lives in her husband's shadow. He controls her every move - what she wears, the food she eats, and the friends she's allowed to make. If she disobeys, there are...consequences. And he has all the power. To outsiders, it seems that she leads a fairy-tale life. But nobody ever wonders if Cinderella was happy after she married the prince. Marlena has traded freedom and safety for luxurious imprisonment, and most days, that seems like a bad bargain. Death may be the only exit she's allowed. Just like his first wife. And his second. Unless she flips the script.

I've seen it all.... A boy who planned to be the next school shooter. A patient with OCD whose loved ones really did suffer every time he missed a ritual. A choir boy who claimed he was being molested - not by a priest - but by God Himself. A patient with PTSD who gave me nightmares. A husband and wife who accused each other of abuse, and only one of them was telling the truth.

The first vignette was well done. After that everything just got more and more ridiculous. Any therapist that bad would have had their license pulled before the middle of the book.

In their absence, our lives have shifted from decadence and sin to survival and virtue under the guidance of the New Gods. I’ve spent my entire life tending to the gardens next to the boundary between our worlds, drawn to the shimmering magic like a moth to the flame. All of that changes the day the Veil shatters, unleashing the fae upon our world once again.
