Historia
In 2007, a short blogpost by Gawker Media outed PayPal founder and billionaire investor Peter Thiel as gay. Thiel's sexuality had been known to close friends and family, but he didn't consider himself a public figure, and believed the information was private. This post would be the casus belli for a meticulously plotted conspiracy that would end nearly a decade later with a $140 million dollar judgment against Gawker and its bankruptcy. Only later would the world learn that Gawker's demise was not incidental - it had been masterminded by Thiel.

Too many ... unnatural.. pauses
Revisado: 02-05-19
The good: the story was as salacious as the teaser summary suggests. And there are many philosophical quotes and one liners that made me think.
The bad: I got a few minutes in before wondering how the narrator could have possibly gotten this job. Then I checked who it was. Ryan, please stop narrating your own books. The cadence was unbearable but the story kept me going. The frequent injections of historical analogues also proved to be obstacles to the finish line. While some were insightful, most came off as pedantic fluff, and I kept thinking the book could have been shorter. Perhaps I wanted it to be shorter because of the unnatural random pauses in nearly every sentence.

Historia
For much of his life, historian Howard Zinn chronicled American history from the bottom up, throwing out the official version taught in schools - with its emphasis on great men in high places - to focus on the street, the home, and the workplace. Known for its lively, clear prose as well as its scholarly research, A People's History of the United States is the only volume to tell America's story from the point of view of - and in the words of - America's women, factory workers, African-Americans, Native Americans, the working poor, and immigrant laborers.

All my history classes were lies!
Revisado: 04-25-18
..or rather selectively omitted truths. This is Americsn history told from the point of view of the oppressed and silenced. It's eye opening and saddening. However be aware that Zinn simply presents viewpoints not told in standard history curriculums, so it's important to realize that what you did learn in history was not necessarily false; just another viewpoint.

Historia
In just a decade and a half, Jack Ma, a man from modest beginnings who started out as an English teacher, founded Alibaba and built it into one of the world's largest companies, an e-commerce empire on which hundreds of millions of Chinese consumers depend. Alibaba's $25 billion IPO in 2014 was the largest global IPO ever. A Rockefeller of his age who is courted by CEOs and presidents around the world, Jack is an icon for China's booming private sector.

Inspirational
Revisado: 11-28-17
Jack Ma is inspirational and his Alibaba strategy is fascinating. His personality and leadership style is so different from Jeff Bezos or Steve Jobs but just as effective. This book is a great window into the dynamics of Chinese internet businesses. My only complaint is that the Chinese pronunciations by the narrator are pretty far off the mark.
