great story terrible recording
Revisado: 12-22-24
I adore this story and the narrator is lovely. However, the quality of the recording gets so bad at times that I can't understand what is being said. It's really sad because I love this type of story and wish I had the patience to finish it. Please fix the recording quality, Audible!

Historia
I was nobody. No matter how hard I tried, I never fit in with anyone at my high school. Now I know why. Turns out I'm a witch. A scary powerful one, too. Except The Coven that claimed me won't teach me how to use my magic. Suddenly, I'm selected by the Goddess to hunt down a mythical locket needed to save the world from destruction. The only person who actually tries to help me is the alarmingly attractive Tennessee. He has immeasurable power and breathtaking mismatched eyes. I'm drawn to him on a level I can't explain...and he's forbidden from getting too close to me.

Boring
Revisado: 04-23-24
it's really difficult for me to not finish a book. even when I don't love them there's something about closure. I just can't finish this one. I can't tell if it's the story or the narration. it doesn't seem bad...just boring and I don't stay focused on it.
it has potential and maybe it gets better if you stick with it...

couldn't finish it. this is the only book narrated by Dara Rosenberg that I could not finish. I love her voice. so I'm guessing it is just the story. I could not follow it. I found myself relaxing I'd just missed and entire chapter and have to start again.

Absolutely Perfect
Revisado: 01-13-23
I didn't know I neeeded this book. I purchased it out of curiosity. Yet it spoke to me in ways I can never fully express in words. Stephanie's bones spoke to my bones.
Anyone with C-PTSD or who knows someone with it, should read this.
Yet, I think it is important for everyone, especially anyone living in the US.
I listened the whole way through without stopping. It is now 3:48am and I just finished. I will be processing everything I've learned for quite sometime and I'm sure revisiting chapters for guidance. Thank you for writing this!

love it
Revisado: 12-21-20
the story is fun. I like a good witchy fantasy but the narrator. mmmmm
there are some narrators you have to listen to at night. and she is one of them. her buttery voice keeps me captivated in the story long enough to start imaging it in dreamlike and then I fall to sleep, everytime. for someone with insomnia this is a godsend. I know ill get through the book slowly but that's ok for me. I've had some softer narrators be monotone and I can't follow but I don't feel this from her. instead its buttery and draws me in but soft and lulls me to sleep. like a magical whisper. mmmmm

slow narration
Revisado: 12-17-20
the only reason I was able to finish this book is because the story is fascinating. I love this author.
the narrator spoke so slowly that I could not follow along. I had to rewind chapters over and over which isn't common for me.
I even sped her up a bit to have it feel more of a normal speed to follow along with. it helped but still her tone is so monotone that I would loose focus again.
I don't want to be mean because she obviously reads well, just not my cuppa tea.
I still don't know the whole story because I just couldn't keep rewinding it. So, I'm missing chunks in between. ha ha

child abuse, sexist, rape threats and slaves
Revisado: 04-21-20
this book is just bad. i looked the previous books because we got some animal communication stuff and some good fantasy yet I even had a hard time with them sometimes. it's just too dark and uncomfortable sometimes. for someone who has suffered rape trauma and some childhood trauma I absolutely hate this book. I tried but I'm done after chapter 4. just can't go any further.

The narrator reads like a second grader or like a robot. It is so hard to get into the story listening to him. It's so sad becuase I loved the first book in this series.

I really wanted to like this
Revisado: 11-07-18
I love a good fantasy. Especially one with fae and a heroine. However, portraying witches as characters to fear and basing them off of something evil just isn’t ok with me.
The wise woman and men of times past had nothing to do with this story of evil, with this belief. They were people of the earth who walked sacred upon it and knew what true connection to all life on earth and to the divine, infinite realms beyond it felt like. They harnessed magick from discipline & practice.
They were scholars, poets, educators, astrologers, astronomers, healers, herbalist, midwives, alchemists, capable of incredible physical abilities, and they were priests & priestesses of the divine, the earth and the gods and goddesses which represent stages and cycles of life and the cycles and experiences found earth. They were not EVIL!
This story of witches is myth created by the church and it is a myth which murdered millions of indigenous peoples on every content of this planet (including the clans of Europe), for hundreds of years, do to the fear it propagated.
It was what started the war against women, femininity and killed the divine feminine balance on our planet! It is what eventually turned into the patriarchal system we still live in today.
It is disgusting to glorify this myth in a your such as this. This myth is a stain upon our past and one that we are only now starting to heal our deep wounds from.
I’m very disappointed in the author for using witches as one of her evil characters. I encourage every person who identifies as healer, herbalist, midwife, doula, death doula, oracle, alchemist, astrologer, astronomers, naturopathic doctors, someone who makes body care products (yes people were labeled and murdered as witches for that too), people who speak to nature, spirit animals and the fae, or even if you just care about the true herstory of this planet,
to please write the author about how inappropriate it is to use witches in this context.
It’s only going to fuel the strange radical beliefs of what witches are and there are already Radical Religious people out there, right now, killing people over their crazy beliefs.
Let’s not fuel the fire.
Witches were actual indigenous people who were labeled by the church as evil for having wisdom outside of their control. They were hunted and murder for almost 400 years! Let us not forget that it is still happening in some countries today!
This must end and must NOT be glorified!
