A bloodied and bruised girl runs out of the woods and into the path of oncoming traffic. The police are shocked to discover that she's a missing schoolgirl they've been trying to find for the past three weeks. Traumatized by her ordeal, she's unable to tell them what happened to her. When the case involving the missing schoolgirl and the murdered woman is taken on by the newly-formed Murder Force, Detective Inspector Danica Summers is touched by the vulnerability of the victims and is determined to capture the monster who ruined their lives.

Stilted writing; horrible narration.

I'm not sure if the book (writing) is as generic & voiceless as it appears to me; it could be the effect of the horrible narration. The pauses are long, the words drawn out and it is pretty much emotionless. The voice sounds as if it should be reading a child's bedtime story to put the kids to sleep. The characters are lifeless and don't seem very smart. If they solve the case, which I imagine they will, it will be miraculous. I, however, won't be around to see what happens. I am doing something I seldom do: giving up after listening to more than half of it and moving on. I just don't care about how it plays out.
