Robotic and predictable
Revisado: 01-06-23
The narrator almost ruined this entirely. She is so robotic, especially with the word "to" and sentences that contain it. I've heard more moving and convincing lines from my GPS.
The story was predictable and the plot lines read like a 14 year old had written them. Honestly, it reminded me of Twilight. Not in a good way.

Historia
Ghosts don't exist in our world of today. Life is too pragmatic, too consuming, too busy for past lives to linger on longer than their allotted time, or so Halcyon had believed, until she received a letter from a lawyer claiming that her mother, whom she had thought long dead, had actually been living in another part of the country since Halcyon's early childhood. She had only recently passed away, leaving Halcyon heir to an unexpected fortune and an estate on an isolated island in the middle of the Great Lakes.

Fell Apart
Revisado: 06-13-19
The premise was interesting and I think it started out well. But the story really started to fall apart near the end. The timeline gets pretty fuzzy and I wasn't really sure what order events took place in. The love story had no suspense and no depth. The ghost story was half hearted and cliche. The characters were one dimensional, almost to the point of transparency.
Ghost story romance is a niche genre and it's hard to come by. My advice is to stick with Simone St. James.

A Little Cheesy But Worth It
Revisado: 09-11-18
What a wonderful story of life, redemption, family bonds, the need to be normal. And also kick ass spy stuff. The incredible Orphan X, the ex black op with a heart of gold, is just fantastic. There are plenty of clichéd phrases, but also lots of humor and reality. Love the new characters and new uses of old ones. This is such a great story line. I can't wait for the next one!

Missing 2 whole minutes!
Revisado: 12-13-17
Watch out for the bit that's missing. Context is enough to tell you kind of what happened, but if you have a physical copy of it (or access to one) it's worth reading those few pages.

Harry Dresden is the best
Revisado: 12-05-17
These books just keep getting better and better! The stories are complex and thorough and they give the readers a chance to figure things out for themselves. The characters are well rounded and very real. The narration is amazing. James Marsters does an incredible job of giving each of them their own voice and personality.
As long as Jim Butcher keeps writing them and James Marsters keeps reading them, I'll keep listening!

Everyone loves a crime solving wizard
Revisado: 09-19-17
I love these books and I love the narrator, James Marsters. There were a few words that he pronounced wrong and I suspect a dropped word here and there. Also, he has a habit of swallowing or wetting his lips right into the microphone and that can be a little annoying. But overall, I really enjoy his portrayal of Harry Dresden!

Mystery, Intrigue, and Love

I love these books more and more as they go on. the narrator is great and I enjoy so many things about the story. The writer obviously did her research and the history is accurate and thrilling. I have really enjoyed watching these characters grow and fill out as the series has gone on.

Historia
A middle-aged man returns to his childhood home to attend a funeral. He is drawn to the farm at the end of the road, where, when he was seven, he encountered a most remarkable girl, Lettie Hempstock. Forty years earlier, a man committed suicide in a stolen car at this farm at the end of the road. Like a fuse on a firework, his death lit a touchpaper and resonated in unimaginable ways. The darkness was unleashed, something scary and thoroughly incomprehensible to a little boy. And Lettie - magical, comforting, wise beyond her years - promised to protect him, no matter what.

It's always lovely to hear an author narrate their own book. You can hear what all the characters are supposed to sound like. What a great book. Beautiful, descriptive fantasy at it's finest.

My Favorite Book
Revisado: 05-14-16
I have lost count of how many times I've read this book. It is my absolute favorite book in the world. Hearing it read aloud was so wonderful. It is a fantastic performance and gave all of the characters just that much more life and realness. It's tagline calls it a retelling of Beauty and the Beast, but it is so much more than that. It's about family and trust and magic and understanding and courage and perseverance and Hope, Grace and Honour. Above all things, this book is about Beauty and love; the truest love anyone has ever known. The kind of love that can break even the evilest of curses.
Please read this book? You will never regret it.

Cool story, bro.
Revisado: 04-01-15
Good story, fun and interesting. a little cliche at times and the dialogue got a little wooden a few times, but overall, it was a good read.
The narration was a little overacted. Her character voices were distinct but not always fitting. Not too bad, though.
