Historia
More than 15 years after the events of The Handmaid's Tale, the theocratic regime of the Republic of Gilead maintains its grip on power, but there are signs it is beginning to rot from within. At this crucial moment, the lives of three radically different women converge, with potentially explosive results. Two have grown up as part of the first generation to come of age in the new order. The testimonies of these two young women are joined by a third: Aunt Lydia. Her complex past and uncertain future unfold in surprising and pivotal ways.

Sooooooo good!

A great follow up to the Handmaid’s Tale! Great cast and I love that Aunt Lydia is voiced by the same actress that plays her in the show. Highly recommend!

Good info
Revisado: 12-13-19
This book has some great, actionable steps in it. I feel that I need to read an overview afterwards to remember all the steps (I listened to this while driving so I couldn’t take notes). Because if that, it might be better to read the written book. But I listen to so so many more books than read them, the audiobook is better for me - even if I do have to spend time afterwards reviewing the main points of the book.
I like that he mentioned different types of to-do list models and the good and bad things about them. I think it will better equip me to create a list that is more personalized to my personality and my work flow habits.

Need to clone myself to do everything suggested in this book
Revisado: 02-01-18
This is a good book and certainly motivational if you need a kick in the butt to get your gears moving. I seriously do not know how the author does everything he does though. Either he has the worlds most energy or is constantly taking uppers. I’m building my own business which is a ton of work, but between kids, my spouse, and everything else in my life I barely have time for what I’m doing now. I think his next book should be about how to find the energy to do everything required in this book.
That said, it’s definitely worth reading and will give you some great advice for how to accomplish things that you want in your life.

Historia
Mothers are the breadwinners in two-thirds of American families, yet the American workplace is uniquely hostile to the needs of parents. Weaving in surprising research about the dysfunction between the careers and home lives of working mothers, as well as the consequences to women's health, Alcorn tells a deeply personal story about "having it all,” failing miserably, and what comes after. Ultimately, she offers readers a vision for a healthier, happier, and more productive way to live and work.

Fantastic read ... err ... Listen
Revisado: 08-27-17
This book was so good. Her story is so similar to mine she could almost be reading my biography. It evoked many feelings in me: sympathy, motivation, anger (at the injustice of American regulations compared to other countries), and a passion to engage in the change the author is persuading her readers to participate in. If you are a working mom, striving to be perfect at all your responsibilities, but feel overwhelmed and that you lack the ability to perform any of them well, you should definitely read this. It won't necessarily solve all your problems but will definitely help you feel better in knowing that you are not the only one. (Not by a long shot!) There is no perfect solution for the many women feeling this pressure, but hopefully many people that read/listen to this book will be inspired to play a role in bringing about a long-overdue change in this country.

Historia
People with borderline or narcissistic personality disorders have a serious mental illness that primarily affects their intimate, personal, and family relationships. Often they appear to be normally functioning at work and in public interactions, and narcissists may even be highly effective, in the short term, in some work or social situations. However, in intimate relationships, they can be emotional, aggressive, demeaning, illogical, paranoid, accusing, and controlling - in the extreme.

Life changing, essential if you are a caretaker
Revisado: 05-23-17
I normally don't write reviews of books but I feel called to with this one. I have listen to a lot of audiobooks about recovering from a narcissist/borderline, many of them have been great and very helpful, but this one is the best yet. It shows embassy and compassion to the person struggling with this, and did a great job of explaining the "symptoms" of the caretaker and why we act that way. Although a lot of advice given in this book overlaps with advice from other books, this one gave additional, very helpful advise and does a good job of explaining how to recover and make the changes needed to stop caretaking and start being your own person. I only realized in the last couple of years that my mother is a narcissist, my ex-husband is also a narcissist. Luckily I was able to go no contact with him and haven't spoken to him in years. I've been going to family counseling and have been meeting with my therapist one on one for several months now. That has been very validating because she sees how delusional and manipulative my mother can be. All of the advice in this book completely syncs up with the advice she's been giving me. After listening to this I feel that, for the first time in my life, I am truly capable of changing myself. I know that I have a long road ahead of me but feel more prepared to take the needed steps now. I can't wait to talk to my therapist about this book in our next session!

Good info, terrible music
Revisado: 05-10-17
I thought the advice in the book was good, it definitely gave me some great prioritizing ideas and ways to work smarter. I thought it could have been longer with more detail about each topic. It also had the cheesiest, 1970's new employee training video music between each break it the book. That was somewhat distracting. I would still recommend for the helpful advice that can be gained however, if this is something you feel that you could do better in.

Too short
Revisado: 05-18-16
This book touched on ways to heal from a bad childhood, but lacked a more in-depth approach to fully understanding how to use these tips. Examples of people that have dealt with this, and showing how they used the steps in this book and the outcome would have been more helpful.

Highlighting the fascinating link between a child’s neurological development and the way a parent reacts to misbehavior, No-Drama Discipline provides an effective, compassionate road map for dealing with tantrums, tensions, and tears - without causing a scene. Defining the true meaning of the “d” word (to instruct, not to shout or reprimand), the authors explain how to reach your child, redirect emotions, and turn a meltdown into an opportunity for growth.

Fantastic lecture
Revisado: 08-11-15
I thought this started off a little slow but it quickly became very interesting and informative. I have always struggled with the ability to communicate effectively, especially when it involves expressing what I am upset about. It has caused problems in my relationships with family and at work. This book offers great advice for how to overcome this problems and how to approach a difficult situation to get a better response. I've started practicing the things I've learned from this lecture and can already see the huge impact it can have on my relationships. I highly recommend this book for anyone that struggles with expressing themselves positively and communicating effectively.
