Enriching, ethnically eyeopening, gripping

Always a learning experience with this author. Gave me a better view of domestic violence, but left me wanting to rationalize it; fix it, Made me want to learn more about it. I especially enjoyed a visit into the lives of Native Americans. Although a microcosim and narrow look into their world, I learned a little of what we all should know. This author can be trusted to bring us into some of the hidden human existences.

An honest depiction of self

I listened to every chapter with an eagerness to understand the world of this talented woman and author. Her straightforward way of presenting hunger comes across as more than the need for food, the need to be seen, the need to be who we are in whatever way we are. I feel enriched by her journey. As a writer, I'm inspired to not hide from my own story on the page.

Historical, gripping, strong story line

Once this story got going it was hard to put it down. The author is one of the most creative writers I've ever encountered. The narration was excellent, and the tension and mystery ongoing. A little slow at the beginning, but once it picks up speed it never disappoints and keeps the reader on their toes.

The tension and challenge

This is a compelling story of a personal struggle waged by an impoverished Black girl to women whose mistake threatens her opportunity shed the world she grew up in. it's full of twist and turns that surprise and push the reader into wanting to touch her, stop her, be there for her as she faces family abuse, insults, sexual discovery and a fragile opportunity that threatens to evaporate.

An inside view if one of Nigeria's cultural groups

I totally enjoyed the reading of dofferent chsracters by the author. The story is compelling, different than any experience I've encountered, with a good amount of tension. I wish there were more moments of joy. The negatives were in excess for me. This however is a very well written and crafted literary work.

A good mystery

I liked the narration and the voices that spoke to the characters personalities but did not give away the plot. the stories strengths were in its unpredictable outcomes and uts weaknesses were in its predictable outcomes. I liked the characters and how they fit into the puzzle. A good story overall.

A Surprising Memoir

This book is a well written, creative memoir on the amazing life and experiences of the author. A tapestry of his life , his father's and family's strengths and frailties with IBM as the backdrop to this Black family's life.
