Historia
Celebrating her forty-fifth birthday at her local pub, popular podcaster Alix Summer crosses paths with an unassuming woman called Josie Fair. Josie, it turns out, is also celebrating her forty-fifth birthday. They are, in fact, birthday twins. A few days later, Alix and Josie bump into each other again, this time outside Alix’s children’s school. Josie has been listening to Alix’s podcasts and thinks she might be an interesting subject for her series. She is, she tells Alix, on the cusp of great changes in her life.

Gripping but icky
Revisado: 12-28-23
I loved the flow of the story- it kept you hanging on every step of the way. But also, (maybe a little spoiler here but not too much…) there were a few holes. While the author addressed the idea of victim shaming, I’m not sure I bought it? Like, I felt icky going along with what the author did really well- getting us to relate to the protagonist. Overall, a quick and engrossing read but not sure I feel great about it after the fact.

Historia
On a day that begins like any other, Hal receives a mysterious letter bequeathing her a substantial inheritance. She realizes very quickly that the letter was sent to the wrong person - but also that the cold-reading skills she's honed as a tarot card reader might help her claim the money. Soon, Hal finds herself at the funeral of the deceased...where it dawns on her that there is something very, very wrong about this strange situation and the inheritance at the center of it. Full of spellbinding menace and told in Ruth Ware's signature suspenseful style, an addictive thriller.

Quite predictable
Revisado: 11-02-21
Though Ruth Ware’s words are as gripping as always, I was sure of the ending within the first few chapters. Not something I often feel with this talented writer.

Ryland Grace is the sole survivor on a desperate, last-chance mission - and if he fails, humanity and the Earth itself will perish. Except that right now, he doesn't know that. He can't even remember his own name, let alone the nature of his assignment or how to complete it. All he knows is that he's been asleep for a very, very long time. And he's just been awakened to find himself millions of miles from home, with nothing but two corpses for company.

Loved it. Intelligent an funny. Mr. Porter, you were fantastic as well/great comedic timing and cadence but I docked you a star for the pages turning. Have never heard that so often in an audible book. I will definitely read another by this team!

Overall, it was great!
Revisado: 01-05-21
I was riveted the entire way through. Really, really enjoyed it. There just seemed to be a few holes in the constructs of the ‘rules’ and I would have liked to know even more about the hypotheticals of the quantum physics. Would definitely recommend.

Historia
An intense psychological thriller for fans of I Am Watching You, The Luckiest Girl Alive, and All the Missing Girls. Two missing girls. Thirteen years apart. Olivia Shaw has been missing since last Tuesday. She was last seen outside the entrance of her elementary school in Hunts Point wearing a white spring jacket, blue jeans, and pink boots. I force myself to look at the face in the photo, into her slightly smudged features, and I can't bring myself to move. Olivia Shaw could be my mirror image, rewound to 13 years ago.

Don't bother
Revisado: 01-04-18
What would have made Girl Last Seen better?
This one urged me to write my first review because I was so disappointed and didn't want anyone else to fall for it! First of all it's HARDLY a thriller. There are maybe 3 lines in the whole book that get you excited to hear what will happen next. Next, the author uses these reoccurring phrases that usually can be passed off as 'themes,' but here, just sounded redundant, like she was out of words to describe someone running away. I'm sorry, Ms. Laurin, I am not a writer and don't mean to berate but... I was bored by not only the story line but the repetitiveness. Finally, there's no real resolution. There are futile attempts at saying, "here, reader, this is how it turned out," but everything seems to be 'by accident.' Maybe I'm being too harsh but this one was not for me.
