Historia
Doremus Jessup, a newspaper editor, is dismayed to find that many of the people he knows support presidential candidate Berzelius Windrip. The suspiciously fascist Windrip is offering to save the nation from sex, crime, welfare cheats, and a liberal press. But after Windrip wins the election, dissent soon becomes dangerous for Jessup. Windrip forcibly gains control of Congress and the Supreme Court and, with the aid of his personal paramilitary storm troopers, turns the United States into a totalitarian state.

Historia
At the center of the debate over American intervention in World War II stood the two most famous men in America: President Franklin D. Roosevelt, who championed the interventionist cause, and aviator Charles Lindbergh, who as unofficial leader and spokesman for America's isolationists emerged as the president's most formidable adversary. Their contest of wills personified the divisions within the country at large, and Lynne Olson makes masterly use of their dramatic personal stories to create a poignant and riveting narrative.

The fight before the fight
Revisado: 12-10-14
Where does Those Angry Days rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
I would say that it ranks in the top 10
What was one of the most memorable moments of Those Angry Days?
The revelation of how prevalent (and acceptable) anti-semitism was in the US before WWII
Have you listened to any of Robert Fass’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
No
Any additional comments?
This tells the interesting and dramatic story of the clash between the interventionists and non-interventionists in the months between the invasion of Poland and the attack on Pearl Harbor. It is little remembered today how bitter and divisive that fight was. The story also reveals the attempts by both the German and British governments to influence public opinion in their respective favors. Overall, it is a good listen and is very informative about a little known chapter in American history.

Mankind at its worst
Revisado: 05-14-14
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
This is the definitive history of Nazi Germany written by one who witnessed most of the events. It is exhaustive in detail yet eminently readable (listenable?). The perfprmance makes it a pleasure to listen to (if pleasure is an appropriate word given the subject).
What did you like best about this story?
It helps to explain, to some degree, how a civilized nation could fall so easily to Barbarians.

Good story-poor performance
Revisado: 04-19-14
What did you like best about South Pacific Destroyer? What did you like least?
I liked the realistice portrayal of life on a Destroyer in WWII. The performance was less than acceptable
What didn’t you like about Alan Bomar Jones’s performance?
He doesn't seem to be familiar with the terms in the story-mispronouncing many of them. Overall his performance seems choppy.

Historia
For the first time in 65 years, a modern, easy to understand, truly complete and uncensored edition of Mein Kampf has been released which reveals more than any past translation. This is also the first translation available in an English language audio format. Older translations altered passages, omitted passages, mistranslated Hitler's words, and made some parts more sensational while concealing the true meaning in other parts of the book.

Would you consider the audio edition of Mein Kampf: The Ford Translation to be better than the print version?
I have not read the print version
Would you ever listen to anything by Adolf Hitler and Michael Ford (translator) again?
No
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
At times it made me sick. To think that this material was believed by a substantial number of well educated "civilized" people makes me despair for humanity. However, it is important for people to read and see how a dangerous mind works.
Any additional comments?
If only the Europeon powers had believed that Hitler meant what he said, humanity might have been spared much suffering.

Historia
It is the 20th century's unrivaled epic: At a staggering price, the United States and its allies liberated Europe and vanquished Hitler. In the first two volumes of his best-selling Liberation Trilogy, Rick Atkinson recounted the history of how the American-led coalition fought its way from North Africa and Italy to the threshold of victory. Now he tells the most dramatic story of all - the titanic battle in Western Europe. D-Day marked the commencement of the war's final campaign, and Atkinson's astonishingly fresh account of that enormous gamble sets the pace for the masterly narrative that follows.

Five star finale
Revisado: 11-28-13
What did you love best about The Guns at Last Light?
Great end to the liberation trilogy
What did you like best about this story?
It combines discussions of grand strategy and the realities of the foxhole. It is a realistic (warts and all) story of the liberation of Western Europe. It illuminates the great heroism and wisdom, as well as the folly, of the victors. Many recent depictions of this familar story gloss over many instances of wate, foolishness and venality of the Western Allies. Making the Allies human does not diminish the heroism-it only enhances it.
What does L. J. Ganser bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
Great read. He understands the subjec matter which shows in the reading.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
The many instances of the sheer (and unnecessary) waste of human life in all too many cases drove me to tears.

Historia
With The Last Stand of the Tin Can Sailors and Ship of Ghosts, James D. Hornfischer created essential and enduring narratives about America’s World War II Navy, works of unique immediacy distinguished by rich portraits of ordinary men in extremis and exclusive new information. Now he does the same for the deadliest, most pivotal naval campaign of the Pacific war: Guadalcanal. Neptune’s Inferno is at once the most epic and the most intimate account ever written of the contest for control of the seaways of the Solomon Islands.
