a whole new universe
Revisado: 03-14-25
I enjoyed the characters, none of whom were what they originally appeared to be. Loved all the different species and how they interacted. Highly original and lots of fun to listen to this as I was transported to America and our world in the future under control of a species from a different solar system.

Looking for the past
Revisado: 02-17-25
Charli wonders why everyone in her family is either unhappy, unlucky, cruel or some combination of these characteristics. Why can't she ever continue a romance? She finds fault or acts so horrible the man calls it off if she doesn't.
At a seminar in Costa Rica with a "soul-reader" leads her to believe some event in her families past is causing problems for descendants in the present.
Charli determines to research her ancestry to discover if this could possibly be true. Three lines of her family she traces back to 1600 or 1700 hundreds. A grandfather on her mother's side seems to emerge out of nowhere. Armed with a picture of a couple and the name, first or last, of Miles as a clue, Charli travels to London to see what she can discover.

Enter Johnathan Aster, world-renowned photographer, with a proposal: he has a never-before-seen photograph of a woman falling from a train bridge, clutching what appears to be a baby. And he wants Julia to research the story.

Timeless
Revisado: 12-27-24
A mother with probably post partum depression never diagnosed could not properly care for her daughter. When the daughter was a young teen she was left in charge of her baby brother. The place is Kentucky in the late 1950's and early 60's.
In 2010 a young woman writer living in New York city is hired by a famous photographer to research the subject of a picture he'd taken in Kentucky nearly 50 years ago.
A fascinating story with characters so real you think you know them. Even the minor characters are sketched with truth. The two narrators make the story sing through the pages. Sometimes it's a sad song, sometimes brimming with delight. And sometimes with a despair so raw you want it to stop.
I was enthralled right through the epilogue.

Heart-stopping on-going Action
Revisado: 11-21-24
I wasn't sure I would like the many narrators as I am used to a single narrator. The production was marvelous and seamless and made the audible even more enjoyable.
Betsy Odom has just lost both her parents and is about to meet her uncle for the first time when he is trying to get custody of her. It's hard to tell the good guys (or gals) from the bad guys even in the alphabet of government agencies that come into the action of this book. As the bodies pile up will the 6:20 man even be able to survive and keep Betsy safe?

Celebrate Life even When Everything Goes Wrong
Revisado: 11-18-24
I loved that the old man Jasper, even though he had lost his entire family tragically years before, still enjoyed the company of young Mitch. He was teaching Mitch how to carve and had given Mitch many of his carvings. There is a love story that remains unresolved between Mitch's mom and a mysterious stranger in town. The whole book is a celebration of life and persistence in living.

Historia
Lark Smith has always had a plan for her life: find a fantastic guy, create a marriage as blissful as her parents’, pop out a couple of kids, and build a rewarding career as an oncologist. Things aren’t going so well. For one, the guy didn’t work out. Theoretically, she’d love to find someone else, but it hasn’t happened. Two, she’s just been transferred out of Oncology for being too emotional. (Is it her fault she’s a weeper?) Three, her parents just split up. Deviating from the plan was … well, not in the plan. A potential solution comes from the foul-tempered surgeon Lorenzo Santini.

Loved the big families
Revisado: 10-17-24
I tried to send this book back because I couldn't understand the narrator of Lark, the main character. Since I couldn't return the book since I had purchased it rather than using a credit I kept listening. I was so happy when Ellie started narrating because she enunciated better. I missed some details in the beginning and the whole end when the accidents were. I did hear enough to know Lark and Dante got married.

A Honeymoon to Remember
Revisado: 09-04-24
Will Trent and Sara finally get married and Will plans an idyllic honeymoon at an elite camp. Little did Will know that the camp is run by the most dysfunctional family you could imagine. Will is appalled to find one of the boys from the orphan home where Will spent 8 years before he aged out. This man, Dave, had given Will the nickname Trashcan, cruelly, because that's where Will's mother left him as a baby.
Dave has grown up to be an abuser, an addic, and a thief and a very manipulative man. His ex-wife is the daughter in the McAlpine family who run the resort camp. He is her adopted brother and they were married when she got pregnant at 15. Even though Mercy has divorced him, he is around all the time because his adopted mother loves him.
When there is a death on the first night they are at the resort it will take Will and Sara working together with Faith and Amanda to use all their wits to figure out who stabbed Mercy again and again. Mercy had told Sarah that everyone there wished she were dead. And then she died.

Ricky Wilde finding her way
Revisado: 08-27-24
As the youngest daughter of four girls, all of whom were successful business women in businesses associated with the family business of a national chain of funeral homes, Ricky did not want to join the family business. She wanted to be a horticulturist and unbeknownst to her family, befriended an old woman she met while helping Della plan her husband's funeral.
Della told her she could open her flower shop in the bottom floor of the old brownstone where the old lady lived on the top three floors.
While struggling to make a success of her business she met a man with a huge secret who kept trying to put her off. A little fantasy, some history from when this area was the center of black musicians and dancers, speakeasies, and 1920's jive make this romance/coming of age story a fun and entertaining read.

The healing of Nature
Revisado: 08-15-24
A family mourning the loss of a six year old twin by drowning, comes to an old estate house of the grandfather of the wife. They plan on selling the house and forest but there is a witch living in a shack on the property and she refuses to leave. The witch is an ex army nurse who was very badly burned in the war and lost half of her face. she is a midwife and a disposer of herbal remedies that she makes herself from the surrounding meadows and woodlands.
It's a story of love, loss, stubbornness, and the need to sell the property so the family can begin a new life in another place.
It's wonderfully told in chapters by the remaining children, the mom and dad, the witch, and some community members.
