Historia
Brace yourself for the second installment of the Da’Valia Trilogy. Neva’s adventure picks up after Born at Dawn with our favorite teen thief trying to revive her Lynx identity, but she’ll get far more than she bargained for with her next job. Eighteen-year-old thief Neva Roberts has been living on the run since absconding with the Eye, a powerful piece of the greatest weapon ever created. But she's running from more than just the Da'Voda clan's cold-hearted ruler. She has exiled herself to a barren land, alone and far from everyone she loves, trying to forget the pain she caused.

I connected with the author through Facebook when I was looking for authors to interview for a magazine I work for. Christina was open and honest about her experience and I was drawn to her drive and motivation (she wrote this after a near death experience)! Her book was on my wishlist forever and recently she offered to give away a few copies of the audiobook. I was lucky enough to get one. This book was such a great listen. The narrator was fun and easy to follow even if the different clan names sound similar and there’s a lot of world building to keep up with. I was drawn in by the narrator, who did an excellent job, and I found myself listening wherever I was, always drawn back to the story. I devoured it in a few days.
I was surprised by the romance elements. I kept guessing who she'd end up with, even suspecting the other thief from the opening scene for a while (haha). I found it sudden but i the best kind of way. An insatiable attraction. I found myself grinning at every kiss. It was a welcome surprise, along with all the other twists and turns. I never knew where this story was headed. I think Davis did a great job for her debut novel and the prophecy worked well to tie up all the loose ends. I just would have liked more lead up to the finale event or a clearer structure to orient the reader throughout the story because I found the events blending together in my head. The big events were there, trust me! One on one combat, trainings, mystery, friendships, burning buildings, a curse, massive battle, this book has it all, but not necessarily in the same way From Blood and Ash worked up to the Ascension. I wasn’t sure what the big finish would be until it happened, but at least when I got it I wasn’t disappointed.
I would definitely recommend this one! If you're hesitant, give it a chance. Davis will draw you in. It’s easy to root for the characters and get invested in the mystery. I'll definitely be reading book two.
