Historia
Many horse trainers, even those who espouse the so-called natural horsemanship approach, take the position that horses who fail to obey a human's request are doing so as much out of perversity as ignorance. That's not Mark Rashid's view. In his words, "If we understand that horses can't separate the way they feel from the way they act, then we can start to see that unwanted behavior isn't bad behavior at all. More times than not, it's just the horse expressing the way he feels at that particular moment in time....

Another great book by Mark Rashid.
I love his philosophy and enjoy his stories about the old man. I always learn from him.
He has helped me to understand horses better, which has helped my confidence in riding.

The stories Hannah Gale’s father told her of breaking wild horses in Nevada one glorious summer when he was her age have captured her imagination. After her dad is called to fight in Iraq, she regularly stops to watch the horses at the nearby stable to feel closer to him, and finally gathers the nerve to ask the owner for a job. There she helps bring a rescued mare back from the brink, takes her first riding lesson, and witnesses the birth of the filly who steals her heart.

Beautifully written about the struggles of lives
Revisado: 03-30-22
This book contained so many truths about human and horse struggles of which I was familiar with. However this would be very educational for readers not familiar with the horse industry. This was an emotionally powerful read. The narrator did an excellent job, although her voice was a bit higher pitch than I am used to. Since the main character was a teenage girl, her voice worked well for this book.

I enjoyed this book very much. such hard work and devotion to owning and running a zoo. The story of Benjamin's wife was well-written and very heartfelt. I did learn a lot about the animals in his zoo from his real-life experiences.

Hard to follow
Revisado: 01-18-22
There was a lot of detailed descriptions of nature and other things which at first was nice, but I think overdone. I had a hard time distinguishing between the male characters due to the same voice and their names. Also switching back and forth from different eras was hard for me to follow. I stuck it out to the end and it took me a long time to finish. Maybe it would have been better for me to actually read the book. Just did not keep my attention.

Truthful, emotional, inspirational
Revisado: 09-12-21
I did not know much about Jewel's upbringing, struggles, trials and tribulations. My heart goes out to her. Telling her story in her own words was like having her near me. I am 20 years older than she, but I still learned a lot about abuse, life, family, homelessness and mental illness, especially anxiety. I am so happy she found her way out of misery and is living a happier and successful life. There are some rough words in her story, but again it is truthful.

Revisado: 08-26-21
I am not a fan of Hollywood, but I am a fan of Ernest Hemingway. I have always been intrigued by his granddaughters and was engaged in listening to Mariel reveal the struggles she and her family went through with various addictions, mental illnesses, and health issues. These struggles are real and I applaud Mariel for inviting me into her world. I loved it in that she was the narrator.

Beloved former ABC 20/20 anchor Elizabeth Vargas reveals her alcohol addiction and anxiety disorder in a shockingly honest and emotional memoir. From the moment she uttered the brave and honest words, "I am an alcoholic," to interviewer George Stephanopoulos, Elizabeth Vargas began writing her story, as her experiences were still raw. Now, in Between Breaths, Vargas discusses her accounts of growing up with anxiety—which began suddenly at the age of six when her father served in Vietnam.

Excellent heartfelt true story of redemption
Revisado: 03-15-21
I loved that Elizabeth narrated her own story. She was brave to share her weakness with the world. But more than that she showed the readers that we all have some secret that we live with no matter who we are. No one is perfect. Her struggles with addiction are real and I believe her story will help others seek help as she finally did to recover from the death-grip of addiction.

Historia
Her name was Henrietta Lacks, but scientists know her as HeLa. She was a poor Southern tobacco farmer who worked the same land as her slave ancestors, yet her cells - taken without her knowledge - became one of the most important tools in medicine: The first “immortal” human cells grown in culture, which are still alive today, though she has been dead for more than 60 years. HeLa cells were vital for developing the polio vaccine; uncovered secrets of cancer, viruses, and the atom bomb’s effects.

Revisado: 01-30-17
One of the best audio books in my library. I am a scientist in a clinical lab and I assisted in an IVF lab. Always in awe about cell culture. This book was so powerful for me in realizing how cell culture has come so far to help so many. Yet the questions raised and the issues associated with human cells were well presented in the book. The family's experience in not knowing about there mother was so heartfelt. I could not put this book down. The author did a wonderful job and the narrators were excellent! Review by Janet Sweeney.
