Historia
From New York Times best-selling author Stephen Graham Jones comes a novel that is equal parts psychological horror and cutting social commentary on identity politics and the American-Indian experience. Fans of Jordan Peele and Tommy Orange will love this story as it follows the lives of four American-Indian men and their families, all haunted by a disturbing, deadly event that took place in their youth. Years later, they find themselves tracked by an entity bent on revenge, totally helpless as the culture and traditions they left behind catch up to them in a vengeful way.

Some really interesting but overall lacks tension
Revisado: 10-27-23
I really appreciated the native centric story- finally a ghost where native mythology isn’t some trope. There are many good kernels in this story but I think they overall construction leaves them muddled and not clearly developed. When tensions hits it took me 2,,3,4 listens to try and figure out the chain of events. And the narrator fails to realize that this is a performance not just a reading - when the tensions hits perform tensions instead he monotones across every climatic scene. But overall I enjoyed it and it’s uniqueness

Probably the best great course I’ve listened to
Revisado: 06-16-23
This is the first great course about any history that I’ve listened to where the lecturer actually presents a different take on history than what every western history book bothers to teach. I appreciated the new insights provided by his fresh perspective and his ability to give voice to the Native American viewpoint.

Historia
Luli Wei is beautiful, talented, and desperate to be a star. Coming of age in pre-Code Hollywood, she knows how dangerous the movie business is and how limited the roles are for a Chinese American girl from Hungarian Hill—but she doesn't care. She’d rather play a monster than a maid. But in Luli's world, the worst monsters in Hollywood are not the ones on screen. The studios want to own everything from her face to her name to the women she loves, and they run on a system of bargains made in blood and ancient magic, powered by the endless sacrifice of unlucky starlets like her.

Nice easy evaluation of the concept of monsters
Revisado: 11-07-21
I find the negative reviews surprising. This course in monsters is a pretty typical dime a dozen analysis of its topic. But to see so many snowflake audible reviews get triggered over the idea that King Kong has racist undertones or that early filmmaking presented only negative views of black people - ideas that are so universally accepted as true that I can’t believe someone hearing it today gets so triggered into a phony hurt ego panic. No one gets triggered when the thing and invasion of the body snatchers are explained as Cold War metaphors - which again are common and dime a dozen observations. Perhaps debunking monster conspiracy theories is not what fragile Americans want to hear or accept.

In this groundbreaking new work, Mark Booth embarks on an enthralling intellectual tour of our world's secret histories. Starting from a dangerous premise - that everything we've been taught about our world's past is corrupted, and that the stories put forward by the various cults and mystery schools throughout history are true - Booth produces nothing short of an alternate history of the past 3,000 years.

Unoriginal collection of new age conspiracy theory
Revisado: 08-14-21
It’s a detailed list of esoteric philosophy filled with the typical list of DaVinci code-esque conspiracy theories. Same old same old new age nonsense with nothing original to say. And the book states disproven quack theories again and again has if they were proven facts. The book acts as if the made up duval stones prove Atlantis and actually said that Indian independence was the the most peaceful in history forgetting to mention the millions who died in the partition.
