Historia
Now reduced to a schoolyard chant, the Hope family murders shocked the Maine coast one bloody night in 1929. While most people assume seventeen-year-old Lenora was responsible, the police were never able to prove it. Other than her denial after the killings, she has never spoken publicly about that night, nor has she set foot outside Hope’s End, the cliffside mansion where the massacre occurred.

Slow storyline
Revisado: 06-18-24
Even with the narration speed increased this story dragged. A lot of repetition. Maybe it is a good story for juvenile readers. Not for those who enjoy a riveting, rapid storyline with thought provoking intrigue.

Details NYC history
Revisado: 04-10-24
I loved all the detail of the Vanderbilt history. Clearly very well researched. Anderson is one of my favorite narrators, his voice is calm and clear. He’s very unbiased. Having family that immigrated through NYC and living there for a bit myself, it explained a lot about the history of the area and its social influences.
The only place I skipped a little was the yachting races, but only because I am not that interested in them. The part about the Lusitania was stellar.
I also recommend the Astor biography.

Interesting story but runs on
Revisado: 05-29-23
I enjoyed the story theme and build up. I got frustrated about 3/4 through because Emma, the main character and a lawyer, seemed so dumb to what was happening in her face. I kept wanting to shake her and say “wake up, you can’t be this naive!”
The climax kept me interested, plus trying to unravel the song and number hints was fun.

True thriller
Revisado: 10-13-21
For me this was “I can’t wait to hear” more kind of story. I loved all the research and details plus alternative viewpoints. I think it was the boss and he was friends with the cops. But then again some of the other suggestions were very persuasive and there were a lot of serial killers around at that time.
The author did an excellent job and I am looking forward to reading, rather listening, to her presentations.

I loved everything about this book. Having studied Russian lit in college, taught by a Lithuanian professor, it was refreshing to come across a book depicting the passion of the Russian peoples versus the political and typically evil view Americans have of Russians. I also very much enjoyed the historical details of social morays of the era.
I also enjoyed multiple readers depicting various characters. It brought more interest to the story

So in late 1969, when handsome Chase Andrews is found dead, the locals immediately suspect Kya Clark, the so-called Marsh Girl. But Kya is not what they say. Revisado: 12-16-18
My newest favorite book. This is a story of family dynamics, the laws of nature, love and mystery. It is a long read, rather listen, kept me entranced night and day. I even went back to review some sections to get a fuller understanding of Owens theme and plot line.
Campbell’s Greetings where a great addition to that southern story

Historia
Two days before Christmas 1996, the broken, battered body of Sophie Toscan du Plantier was found outside her vacation home in West Cork, a serene region on Ireland’s idyllic southern coast. Decades later, no one has been charged with the murder, but the aggrieved inhabitants of West Cork are convinced they know who did it - and he still lives among them.

Many faceted murder mystery
Revisado: 03-31-18
West cork presents many points of view. I liked the way it was written, although some reviewers did not. The witness accounts and opinions are seamlessly intertwined so the story is not disconnected by its interviewing style.
Later in the book I had visions of the Amanda Knox/Meredith Kercher murder. It grew from more than a murder into philosophical points of view, even national ethics.
