Historia
In his early forties, nonprofit writer Tip Murray is just getting past the wreckage of his youth and settling into semi-humdrum married New England domesticity. Things take an unusual turn when he receives shocking news from his high school best friend, hippie farmer Natalie, that one of their former teammates from speech team, Pete, has committed suicide. Surprisingly mentioned in Pete’s final Facebook post? A devastating comment made to him by their speech team coach, Gary Gold.

I’ll give you something to cry about…
Revisado: 06-30-24
I had to read this book for book club, and while it was a fast listen, it seemed like a lot of the horrible things that happened to them when they were adolescents are just par for the course and resulted in a lot of whining that made for low-grade Smaltz. I’m not a big fan of whining. Also the narrator sounded like Moira from Schitt’s Creek! The characters were all fairly one dimensional. And if this Speech Team advisor was the worst thing that ever happened to them they really haven’t experienced a lot of life. I’m not excusing his behavior. Guy was a jerk.

A Page Turner, so to speak
Revisado: 05-13-22
I love Sharon's voice, and she's got so much to tell given her age and how long she's been in Hollywood. I don't want to give anything away, so I would say just go for it. It's a quick listen, because you will get hooked!

Great listen...wish Tina would have read it
Revisado: 11-18-21
The book is great, as I'm a Tina Turner super fan, and while I recognize that she has some health issues, it seems like reading this book she wrote would have been possible. If she had I would have given it all 5 stars. Some great new stories about the old days though.

I got too far in, and couldn't return this audible
Revisado: 11-18-21
...and now to add insult to injury I have to read the next book in the series, because nothing got tied up in this book. Rather tricky if you ask me. I will say this about the book, I wanted it to end all tied up in a nice bow where everyone is happy, and love prevails and good defeats evil, and well that's not real life, and this book doesn't give you that, so I have to at least admire the author for telling the truth even in a world of high fiction. The narrator was a little shrill.

Great coming of age story...but so much more
Revisado: 10-05-21
I've never listened to anything by this author before, but I will definitely continue with her books in the future. She's such a beautiful writer, and her characters are very rich - I love books that are told over the span of many years...kind of a modern day Stand By Me. Highly Highly recommend.

Great book, and great narrator. I learned so much from listening to this, and even though it's fiction the authors make a huge effort to be as historically accurate as possible. Loved it so big!

Even better than the first book
Revisado: 10-05-21
I randomly discovered A Dirty Job this past summer, and loved it, so I was worried this follow up wouldn't be as good, but it was even better. Can't wait for a third book in the series. People find the narrator somewhat polarizing, but I love his voice(s), and as an added bonus not all the cheesy music they had in the first book between chapters!
