Loved this suburban mom detective! The concept was interesting, the narrator did a great job, would listen to more if it becomes a series.

Narrator did a great job. Good suspenseful story but not too gruesome, more a question of who’s the bad guy and who’s safe to trust. I listen to a lot of mysteries, mostly more on the light and cozy side. This was a nice delve into a little darker mystery. Liked the plot line, would listen to more like this.

Book 1 was free, so I gave it a try. It was a good listen. Solid mystery, likeable characters, good narrator. I will definitely keep listening to the series.

Great narration, great story. I figured out what happened to the guy who was killed, but I enjoyed listening to the story unfold anyway. Sutanto’s other books have been a little juvenile but fun. This one has a bit more depth. I have enjoyed her writing so far and hope she keeps giving us funny but poignant mysteries for years to come. Definitely worth a listen if you want a lighthearted feel good story with characters you will love.

Overall, a good listen for anyone who has ever dreamed of living in Paris. American man realizes dream of opening American diner, bringing classic diner ambiance and American breakfast and comfort food to expats and Parisians. Since I speak French, the narrator’s pronunciation grated on my nerves a bit when he threw in the odd French word for a bit of color. Otherwise he was a very good narrator. I listen to loads of audiobooks while I commute, sit at the laundromat, etc. This was a good listen.

I really love Susanna Kearsley’s novels. She does a fantastic job of weaving past and present, romance and intrigue. Some of her books have a paranormal element like time travel, but this one does not.

Good narrator, good story, likeable characters. Listened while commuting and doing mindless chores, light enough “read” to serve as a backdrop, one of the better freebies from the “included” collection. If you like cozy mysteries but not overly cutesy themed things, you’ll probably enjoy this. I like Agatha Raisin but this is definitely not in that series.

No summary or spoilers here.

I loved Jones’ Charley Davidson series and was disappointed when it came to what felt like a pretty abrupt close. It had a little romance, a little mystery, a little paranormal, a lot of humor. This new series has a good blend of genres as well. I like the characters, I like the writing, and I see lots of room for stories to grow. I will definitely be on the lookout for the next installment in this series. I hope Ms Jones has loads of ideas to keep this character busy for a long time.

Where do I fall on the reader spectrum? I like to read 2-6 books per week, mostly light and fun stuff like mysteries, historical fiction, modern fiction. I don’t mind things that are a bit predictable if the writing is good or if I really like the characters, especially if the stories are enjoyable and the narrator is good. I’m an omnivore. I love Alexander McCall Smith, Patricia Briggs, Rhys Bowen, Kerry Greenwood, Craig Johnson, Michael Connelly, Diana Gabaldon, Robert Jordan, Lyndsey Davis. One of my favorite reads in the past year was Where’d You Go Bernadette? I watch lots of mystery on Acorn and BritBox but I’m currently binging The Ranch, Man with a Plan, and StarTrek Discovery. Sometimes I read reviews and wonder which ones to listen to, whose preferences might be similar to mine - so if you like or hate any of what I like should tell you whether my opinion of this book helps you.

If you’re a fan of cozy mysteries, this is a good start to a new series. I’m a voracious listener but I don’t write reviews as often as I should. I like the main characters in this series and I liked the first two stories overall - maybe not on my best ever list, but an enjoyable light listen while I’m commuting, and definitely with potential to become a good series. The narrator does pretty good voices for the characters, but there are some weird pauses that can be annoying when you’re listening. Not intentional inflection or accent, but maybe running out of breath or trying not to get tongue-tied. She does a good job most of the time, so I don’t think a new narrator is warranted, but I hope May will will become a little smoother as the series continues. I will definitely give the 3rd novel a listen when it comes out.
