Historia
When a Tyrannosaurus rex suffers pain from meat trapped between its enormous teeth, a nearby colony of ants risks entering the great creature's maw to make their own repast from the remains of the dinosaur's most recent meal. From this humble beginning, over the course of millennia, a symbiotic civilization achieves amazing advances, facing dangers and exploiting opportunities at every turn.

Another View of Earth’s Prehistoric History
Revisado: 07-12-24
The story flows quickly. The connection between the characters in the story is explained well and in a plausible manner. The middle sections of the book skips over the technological advances and focuses on character development. Fair trade off.
Would love to see this animated! The story was well read and at a good pace.

Historia
Professor Louis Moore’s audiobook about the history of African Americans in sports in the United States educates listeners about the fascinating social and cultural history of the nation. For example, integration of major league and professional sports broke a major color barrier for one of the first times in the early years of the Civil Rights Movement. African American athletes competed in America long before the 20th century - in fact, they even competed during the years of slavery.

Historia
Few names in the history of baseball evoke the excellence and dynamism that Rickey Henderson’s does. He holds the record for the most stolen bases in a single game, and he’s scored more runs than any player ever. “If you cut Rickey Henderson in half, you’d have two Hall of Famers,” the baseball historian Bill James once said. But perhaps even more than his prowess on the field, Rickey Henderson’s is a story of Oakland, California, the town that gave rise to so many legendary athletes like him.

All Time Great
Revisado: 07-06-22
Bryant crafts more than the typical sports biography with “Rickey”. He takes us on the journey so many African Americans made out of the South and into Oakland. Bryant explodes so many of myths surrounding the career of Rickey Henderson. After reading this great work you’ll walk away with renewed appreciation for Rickey, and the impact of the stolen base.

Historia
There had been mythic sports figures before Cassius Clay, but when he burst upon the sports scene in the 1950s, he broke the mold. Those were the years when boxing and boxers were at the mercy of the mob and the whim of the sportswriters. If you wanted a shot at a title, you did it their way. Young Clay did it his way - with little more than an Olympic gold medal to his credit, he danced into Sonny Liston's baleful view and provoked the terrifying champ into accepting him as his next challenger. The rest is history.

Highlights of Ali’s Rise
Revisado: 06-06-22
This is a great introduction to the world of Cassius Clay. Remnick does a great job describing his upbringing and emergence into the national consciousness. Hearing the evolution of Clay into Muhammed Ali is amazing and well told. Not much about Ali’s boxing career post the draft but there are plenty places to read about that aspect of his life. Enjoyable story 👍🏾

Historia
Drone pilots who carry out targeted assassinations. Undocumented immigrants who man the "kill floors" of industrial slaughterhouses. Guards who patrol the wards of America's most violent and abusive prisons. In Dirty Work, Eyal Press offers a paradigm-shifting view of the moral landscape of contemporary America through the stories of people who perform society's most ethically troubling jobs. As Press shows, we are increasingly shielded and distanced from an array of morally questionable activities that other, less privileged people perform in our name.

A Close Look at The People We Don’t Usually See
Revisado: 01-09-22
Press does a wonderful telling the stories of the people society tends to ignore. He gives them life and a presence that is not offered by most. His detailed look at the jobs and the historical explanation of story behind the modern state of this “dirty work” should make all of us question the type of society we live in and how so much of what we take for granted occurs only because of the sacrifice of so many of the workers humanized in this brilliant work. It will change your views on much that we take for granted economically and even politically.
Well paced and measured narration by Neil Shah also a big plus for sharing the stories included. Highly recommended !!!!

Historia
It is the story of 11-year-old Pecola Breedlove--a black girl in an America whose love for its blond, blue-eyed children can devastate all others--who prays for her eyes to turn blue: so that she will be beautiful, so that people will look at her, so that her world will be different. This is the story of the nightmare at the heart of her yearning and the tragedy of its fulfillment.

Historia
In this brilliant book, Isabel Wilkerson gives us a masterful portrait of an unseen phenomenon in America as she explores, through an immersive, deeply researched narrative and stories about real people, how America today and throughout its history has been shaped by a hidden caste system, a rigid hierarchy of human rankings. Beautifully written, original, and revealing, Caste: The Origins of Our Discontents is an eye-opening story of people and history, and a reexamination of what lies under the surface of ordinary lives and of American life today.

Transformational Book
Revisado: 12-27-20
This book is a tremendous work. It breaks down the racial caste system of the United States with clear and indisputable evidence. Reading/listening to this book will alter many perceptions of the racial structures and policies existing in this country. Hopefully the awareness will be a call to action to breakdown the caste system.

Historia
Jazz Bashara is a criminal. Well, sort of. Life on Artemis, the first and only city on the moon, is tough if you're not a rich tourist or an eccentric billionaire. So smuggling in the occasional harmless bit of contraband barely counts, right? Not when you've got debts to pay and your job as a porter barely covers the rent. Everything changes when Jazz sees the chance to commit the perfect crime, with a reward too lucrative to turn down.
