Historia
The Great Extermination has begun. In the Capitol, Grand Inquisitor Omand Vokkan hatches a plot to kill every member of the untouchable caste in all of Lok, down to the last man, woman, and child. As a member of the Order of Inquisition, Vokkan has no official say in the creation of Law, but he has powerful allies willing to do his bidding. Through them, he has convinced the Judges that the genocide will be swift, complete, and without complication. Nothing is farther from the truth.

Fantastic series, waiting for book 4... please!
Revisado: 01-27-22
This is a classic and well conceived sword and sorcery saga, following the adventures of the great protector (now turned criminal), 20 years senior; Ashok Vadal, the greatest swordsman ever known. Great read throughout the saga, built with increasing intensity and character evolution all the way from book 1 through book 3. Each book has left me anxious and anticipating the next book.
The world of Lok is pretty well developed, the cast of characters centered mostly on Ashok are at times despondent, sometimes fragile, and occasionally heroic. There is a good supporting cast that keeps things interesting with little mini adventures of their own as they come in and out of the story line. The Gods and monsters in the story are mysterious, and often elusive, interspersed throughout the story to make life on Lok adventuresome and challenging, with the suspenseful motive of the supreme beings evolving into what we can only assume to be the epic clash between good and evil. The series has a lot of fun and interesting twists, epic battles, intense fights, and lots of page-turning suspense. I found it hard to put down, and devoured all three books, twice!
In the third installment, Thera is slowly and reluctantly evolving into the prophesy, gradually accepting her leadership role as she reluctantly leads the rising casteless resistance to a haven where they can start a new life. But the crafty Grand Inquisitor; Omand, relentless in his pursuit of power, orchestrates the Great Extermination to rid Lok of all casteless people. As the campaign commences haphazardly in remote areas of Lok, the senseless murders force the Prophet to command the fledgling army of the Sons of the Black Sword to emerge from their hidden camp to confront Omand's army. After an immense battle, the Gods intervene in the duel to the death between the Lord Protector and the heartless Ashok, sending Ashok down river and leaving us hanging there with so many loose threads flapping in the wind...
So, where is Book-4, Larry?!?!?! We are waiting... :(

Historia
Ryland Grace is the sole survivor on a desperate, last-chance mission - and if he fails, humanity and the Earth itself will perish. Except that right now, he doesn't know that. He can't even remember his own name, let alone the nature of his assignment or how to complete it. All he knows is that he's been asleep for a very, very long time. And he's just been awakened to find himself millions of miles from home, with nothing but two corpses for company.

One of the best
Revisado: 08-09-21
I throughly enjoyed this book, it has science, mystery, fiction, mathiness, humor... and a lot of creativity. The witty prose is very well delivered by the narrator; Ray Porter. I found myself totally engrossed in the story, and often found myself laughing out loud in the gym as I listened to the sarcasm and wit that often dribbles out of Ryland Grace.
Bravo Mr. Andy Weir, this is the best book I've listened to in a couple of years, and I dare say the audible version is likely better than the printed version of this book because Porter does such an excellent job narrating. I've now picked up "The Marian" because "Project Hail Mary" introduced your writing talent to me, so I have to explore more of your work.

Historia
Since it was first published more than 25 years ago, Robert Fitzgerald's prizewinning translation of Homer's battle epic has become a classic in its own right: a standard against which all other versions of The Iliad are compared. Fitzgerald's work is accessible, ironic, faithful, written in a swift vernacular blank verse that "makes Homer live as never before" ( Library Journal).

Long, detailed and tiring story of one big battle
Revisado: 03-28-21
Homer spent a great number of pages on certain exquisite details, especially on the family history and heritage of the soldiers. But the story is limited and lesser in depth and presence, giving way to the gruesome details of battle scenes and the bitter death of so many soldiers. Homer’s depiction of the suffering and agony of war is notable. This tale may very well be the model for modern war documentaries. It is perhaps more educational rather than entertaining. A bit of struggle to finish.

Historia
Harvard professor of symbology Robert Langdon awakens in a hospital in the middle of the night. Disoriented and suffering from a head wound, he recalls nothing of the last 36 hours, including how he got there...or the origin of the macabre object that his doctors discover hidden in his belongings. Langdon's world soon erupts into chaos, and he finds himself on the run in Florence with a stoic young woman, Sienna Brooks, whose clever maneuvering saves his life.

Typical Langdon construct a bit aged
Revisado: 07-11-20
This is another in the series of the brilliant Robert Langdon, professor of symbology. I'm a sucker for Dan Brown's Langdon series, set in historic locations, his twist on art, artifacts and architecture as clues, and his development of intricate conspiracies, it's all first rate fun. But the construct is getting a bit old. As usual Langdon is thrown into a world of international intrigue, with mysterious figures, cults and underworld organizations determined to unleash evil. As usual, there is an attractive and skilled woman who teams with Langdon to solve the mystery. As usual the twists and turns have you wondering and questioning who is good, and who is bad.
It follows in the tradition established since the first book; Angels & Demons, and it is a worthy read that continues to thrill. It was especially fun reading it while being locked down in the COVID-19 pandemic sweeping the world. Very apropos. As a mystery novel, it is fun and gripping enough to keep you interested and turning pages. But Dan Brown needs to change the narrative a bit and try something a little different with Langdon. The formula was successful, especially in the first two novels in the series, but now in the fourth it is a bit too predictable. Still fun, but predictable.

Revisado: 05-12-18
This is very high level, and doesn't really get into the details of the specified trades, no examples and no real analysis. Mediocre at best.

An original investing strategy based on 10 quantitative rules. A good number of investment books are based on technical rules or chart patterns. Some books offer fundamental analysis, but too often, most are unable to offer anything substantial or tangible. In this title, seasoned investor JB Marwood reveals the precise rules to an investing strategy that combines the best of two well-known investment concepts, that of value investing and momentum.

Too basic and elementary, narrowly focused on software
Revisado: 01-05-18
Very, very elementary principles for the totally uninformed beginner. It was disappointing in that it spends 2 chapters talking about setting up software, and then through most of the book it goes into the software the author wants us to use. There are perhaps 15 minutes of useful info, and even that is very basic value investing strategy that just about everyone already knows.
