Historia
In this intimate, haunting, literary memoir read by the author, an American icon tells her story for the first time, in her own gorgeous words - about a challenging and lonely childhood, the craft that helped her find her voice, and a powerful emotional legacy that shaped her journey as a daughter and a mother.

One of the best!
Revisado: 03-21-19
This is a powerful memoir, and it's beautifully read by the author. I've always loved her acting and now, knowing what she went through, I'll appreciate it even more. She's courageous, funny, smart and incredibly hard-working, and she deserves all the success she's achieved. I'd strongly recommend listening to this one instead of simply reading it.

Historia
Originally published in The New Yorker in 1954, The Ponder Heart is easily Eudora Welty’s most comic novel, a lighthearted burlesque that rivals Caldwell’s Tobacco Road for capturing rural idioms, and the novels of Mark Twain for high farce.

Great reader
Revisado: 03-12-17
Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?
I liked the reader, although the comedy was often over-the-top, and the characters, especially Uncle Daniel and the lawyers, were not believable. The courtroom scene was interminable.
What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)
It was okay; I was glad when the book was over.
What does Sally Darling bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
Her Southern accent is very good. She makes Edna Earle, the narrator, come to life.
If this book were a movie would you go see it?
No. I'm not a fan of Southern comedies. I've liked Eudora Welty in the past, although not this one so much.

Historia
North Dakota, late summer, 1999. Landreaux Iron stalks a deer along the edge of the property bordering his own. He shoots with easy confidence - but when the buck springs away, Landreaux realizes he's hit something else, a blur he saw as he squeezed the trigger. When he staggers closer, he realizes he has killed his neighbor's five-year-old son, Dusty Ravich.

Wonderful book and reader
Revisado: 03-12-17
Would you consider the audio edition of LaRose to be better than the print version?
Yes. The absence of quotation marks makes the print version difficult to read. The author, who is wonderful at differentiating the voices, makes the conversations easy to follow. I loved the story and the reading both.
What did you like best about this story?
Characterizations, and dialogue, especially between the two daughters, both in their teens.
Which character – as performed by Louise Erdrich – was your favorite?
Maggie (and Snow and Josette) were all great.
