Historia
Between social media, constant connection, and addictive tech and smartphones, the boundaries of privacy are stretched thin. We can track our kids’ every move with apps, see their grades within minutes of being posted, and fixate on their digital footprint, anxious that a misstep could cause them to be “canceled” or even jeopardize their admission to college. All of this adds pressure on kids, particularly Gen Z. Growing Up in Public shows us that by focusing on character, rather than the threat of getting caught or exposed, we can support our kids to be authentically themselves.

Practical and empowering parenting guide
Revisado: 09-23-24
amazing parenting guide to helping kids navigate this digital and hyperconnected and monitored world - rather than just recommending abstinence, it offers empathetic insight into what they face and practical guidance on how to help them make choices that will keep them emotionally safe and reflect the character they’re working so hard to develop

A refreshing perspective to become more intentional about alcohol
Revisado: 12-28-23
I mean this in the best way possible: This book is the ultimate buzz kill. It shines a light on all the myths we believe about drinking and gives you helpful questions to ask when you’re feeling the pull. Ultimately, it helped me get to a point where I actually don’t want or miss alcohol at all. 1.5 years and counting. Thank you, Annie.

Inspiring and actionable
Revisado: 11-20-23
This is a book you’ll need to pause frequently to take notes! It provided clear, actionable advice that I’ll implement now. I also took note of chapters I’ll revisit as I’m further along. Listening felt like going to coffee for mentor meetings with an impressive lineup of women I wouldn’t have otherwise had access to. Great read for all stages, but particularly valuable for women in early to developing stages of their careers.

Historia
Heather McGhee’s specialty is the American economy—and the mystery of why it so often fails the American public. From the financial crisis of 2008 to rising student debt to collapsing public infrastructure, she found a root problem: racism in our politics and policymaking. But not just in the most obvious indignities for people of color. Racism has costs for white people, too. It is the common denominator of our most vexing public problems, the core dysfunction of our democracy and constitutive of the spiritual and moral crises that grip us all.

Powerful call to action
Revisado: 04-02-22
As a white woman raised in the “colorblind” 80s, I’m on a journey of learning and unlearning about the racial history and current dynamics in this country. I appreciate how she directly addresses so many common “white moderate” views and reveals the racism at the root. I also appreciate her hopeful call to action. The story is dark. The road ahead is hard. But she makes a compelling argument for hope if we work together.
