Historia
World War II London: When Victoire “Paddy” Bennett first walks into the Admiralty’s Room 39, home to the Intelligence Division, all the bright and lively young woman expects is a secretarial position to the charismatic Commander Ian Fleming. But soon her job is so much more, and when Fleming proposes a daring plot to deceive the Germans about Allied invasion plans he requests the newlywed Paddy's help. She jumps at the chance to work as an agent in the field, even after the operation begins to affect her marriage. But could doing her duty for King and country come at too great a cost?

This really should have been titled (at least) Two women's war
Revisado: 03-19-25
This story revolves around Operation Mincemeat, focusing on the role and perspective of several women who play key parts in it. there was a bit too much filler narrative, especially in the first part of the book. Some characters seemed superfluous. Not as gripping as Sister's of the Resistance but overall, an enjoyable listen. Saskia Marlevald is a superb narrator and I seek out her books.

Historia
Her beauty almost certainly saved her from the rising Nazi party and led to marriage with an Austrian arms dealer. Underestimated in everything else, she overheard the Third Reich's plans while at her husband's side, understanding more than anyone would guess. She devised a plan to flee in disguise from their castle, and the whirlwind escape landed her in Hollywood. She became Hedy Lamarr, screen star.

A little known story about a brilliant woman
Revisado: 09-07-22
This is an amazing story, well told by the author and brilliantly narrated. I love reading stories about the little known heroines of WWII. This story tops my list. Heddy Lamar was a person of character, with a heart, a concience and an incredible intellect. It's so sad that the sexism of her time denied her the credit she was due.

Historia
Quinn Quicksilver was born a mystery—abandoned at three days old on a desert highway in Arizona. Raised in an orphanage, never knowing his parents, Quinn had a happy if unexceptional life. Until the day of “strange magnetism.” It compelled him to drive out to the middle of nowhere. It helped him find a coin worth a lot of money. And it practically saved his life when two government agents showed up in the diner in pursuit of him. Now Quinn is on the run from those agents and who knows what else, fleeing for his life.

Not what I expected
Revisado: 07-24-22
This book was quite a departure from the other books from Koontz I've listened to. This one was quirky, much less dark. But overall, still an entertaining listen. The ending was a bit disappointing-- seemed like the author had a deadline to make and just wrapped it up. And what about the coin? Narrator was the best I've ever heard. so many distinct character voices. Kudos to him!

This book changed the way I see the world
Revisado: 05-23-22
If Anna Czerski wanted us to view the world through a different light, she certainly achieved it. Wonderful explanations of things we don't ever think about but which are so relevant to daily life and life on earth. So many examples, surprisingly connected. I can listen to whole chapters over and over again without getting bored. This book makes science beautiful.

Good story, superb narration
Revisado: 02-25-22
I always wonder how Koontz comes up with the most heartless evil villains. So pure evil it's disturbing. I cant listen before bed.
(Better for car trips.) But the story keeps one engaged, building to the climax. The narrator was excellent. At first, the main character was portrayed a bit too ditzy to me but she was definitely not ditzy at the end. The only issue I have with the story was the end. it was a bit of a let down. Felt like the author had a deadline to finish so he just cut it short, unlike other novels of his. Disappointing after a long build up. I felt like it was just his plot notes thrown quickly on the page. The weak conclusion is the only reason for 4 instead of 5 stars.

Historia
In 1893, there's no such thing as witches. There used to be, in the wild, dark days before the burnings began, but now witching is nothing but tidy charms and nursery rhymes. If the modern woman wants any measure of power, she must find it at the ballot box. But when the Eastwood sisters - James Juniper, Agnes Amaranth, and Beatrice Belladonna - join the suffragists of New Salem, they begin to pursue the forgotten words and ways that might turn the women's movement into the witch's movement.

Historia
Trauma victims are not new to medical examiner Faith McIntyre, but this one is different. The unconscious woman clinging to life after a hit and run is FBI agent Macy Crow. What the woman from Quantico was doing in a dark alley after midnight is just one mystery. The other is more unsettling: Macy is Faith’s mirror image—the twin sister she never knew she had.

Historia
When Hazel is given the chance to parachute into Nazi-occupied France, she seizes the opportunity to do more for the British war effort than file paperwork. Alongside her childhood friend, French-born Rose, she quickly rises up the ranks of the freedom fighters. For Rose, the Resistance is a link to her late husband, and a way to move forward without him. What starts out as helping downed airmen becomes a bigger cause when they meet Sophia, a German escapee and fierce critic of Hitler who is wanted by the Gestapo.

Grabbed my attention and held it
Revisado: 04-24-18
I love historical fiction, and this story held me in its grip all the way through. I needed an audiobook to get me through several days of driving, and I couldnt wait to get to get back behind the wheel to hear more. The tale that she weaves together of her heroines pays great homage to the real women of the Resistance. Beautifully written and narrated. Very satisfying.
