Having the right narrator is SO important when it comes to audiobooks and I know that Bryn Austin has done several others for Stephenia H McGee in the past, so I was already confident going in that it would be well done. I am absolutely loving this series so far and can't wait to continue with it. I'm not a huge time travel reader, but McGee's books are not only an exception for me, but included in my must-read list. Knowing that the author loves history and seeing how that plays out in anything she writes regardless of the time period on display, draws me even deeper into the stories she creates. I truly enjoyed this read. I liked that Maddie and Nathanial learned some real, thought-provoking life lessons as they witnessed a love story unfold in an unfamiliar era. Yet despite the change in date, the lessons learned are timeless. Without spoiling, some of the time travel aspects differed in this read from the previous one in the series, however considering they are stand-alone stories it's not something that needs to throw the reader off. I like that this series makes me think and that there are nonfiction lessons wrapped up in an enjoyable fictional read. I highly recommend this series and I already am waiting impatiently for the next one to release.

Revisado: 05-15-21
Having the right narrator is so important and can make or break a read. In this case, the narrator's voice didn't match the energy or mood of the story, and it threw me off as a reader. Her voice seemed almost "singsongy" while the content was anything but. I could tell that the narrator had a lot of enthusiasm and excitement for the read, but it just didn't match the story at all. I would recommend reading a physical copy of this book.

Narration Review:
It is SO important to have the right narrator for an audiobook, and Stephenia H McGee has a gold star in Brynn Austin. I don't tend to "follow" many narrators, but knowing that Austin was going to be doing this series after enjoying her performance in others by this author, I was quite excited to say the least. She does a wonderful job of matching her voice to the energy and mood of the stories, and is able to craft different voices for the characters so they are easier to distinguish as she reads.
Story Review:
Oh my goodness, LOVE!. Although time travel reads aren't my typical genre of choice, once I see Stephenia H McGee's name on the cover, I instantly know I must get my hands on it. There is something about her writing that sets her apart from other authors who write in this particular genre. If you take a look at her other reads, she tends to write more historical fiction, but even those that touch contemporary timelines have a tangible, deep-rooted appreciation and respect of history. In order for a story like this to be strong enough for me to enjoy it, the setting has to be as strong as the characters themselves, and McGee does an impeccable job of this. She doesn't just throw the characters back in time, but immerses them in the world of the time, they appear. Her wealth of research is evident, and often revealed in humorous if not unfortunate events. I adored this story, and yes, there were several moments of audible laughter throughout. HIGHLY recommend!

*audiobook review
A narrator can easily make or break a read, and in this case the narrator did a wonderful job making this a super enjoyable listen. She did a great job with both the male and female voices. Her lively energy kept me invested and wanting to see how everything would unfold
The story had interesting characters and and endearing, fun plot. I could picture it being a Christmas movie. It was a light read with plenty of humor. Unfortunately my favorite part would involve a spoil so I won't share it here, but it certainly brought a smile to my face. If you know me, I don't typically read Christmas stories but I actually enjoyed this one. I think others would enjoy it as well.

Narration Review:
Oh my goodness, the narrator for this one did an absolutely superb job! I don't think I could say enough wonderful things. Her voice matched the energy and mood of the story and she did a fantastic job at making each of the character voices sound different and unique. She was the perfect person to read this one and I hope to listen to more from her in the future.
Story Review:
I adored this story. Ella Whitaker was an incredible heroine and was an easy character to root for. Her fierce love for baby Lee was a force to be reckoned with, and was a true driving force for the novel. Westley was the perfect counterpart. I liked the personal growth he experienced to make him the right person for Ella. They certainly dealt with their fair share of miscommunication, but the conflict was an interesting blend of humor and facepalm. There was so much that I loved in this story and it held my attention from start to finish. I highly, highly recommend this one!

Story Better Than the Audio
Revisado: 07-15-20
Story:
I really enjoyed Patricia Beal's debut novel A Season to Dance, so I was excited to pick this one up. I like that the author is willing to go to places that might make people a little uncomfortable, but she does it to create real characters with real issues, so that the redemption experienced comes across as more genuine and maybe even relatable. For my own personal taste the romance developed too quickly and was too heavily based on physical chemistry, but I know others might not be bothered so much. As the story progressed I entered into a love-hate relationship with both Clara and Andrew. Initially I felt that Andrew was "too good" but without going into too much detail, that changed. Clara was harder to figure out, but I started to appreciate her more as I learned more about her story and she grew as a person.
Narrator:
I was unfortunately not a huge fan of the narrator in this case. The pacing was off and her character voices were too similar so it was difficult to keep track of the dialogue and new paragraphs. The narration sounded more like a read-a-loud instead of someone who was aware of the story and would match their energy and tone to fit the content. If I was to recommend this book to a friend I would be much more likely to recommend the print or e-book version for this reason.

Loved it!
Revisado: 04-09-19
Jocelyn Green is an author who is able to flawlessly weave history and fiction to create incredible stories. Widow of Gettysburg is no exception to this. If you read the author's note at the end of the book (included in the audio through audible), the author reveals a lot of what is fact and fiction. While Liberty's story is a work of fiction, there is no shortage of history found within the pages of it. I found it to be masterfully developed and researched.
It did not take me long at all to be fully engrossed in Liberty's story. While I have read several books that take place during the Civil War over the years, I found this one to be quite unique. I don't want to share any spoilers, but the power of this story was created within the many twists and turns of events. The soldiers were not the only ones whose lives were forever altered by the events that took place at Gettysburg and other battle sites during the war. This book gives a voice to many of the women who were trapped in seemingly impossible situations yet found themselves capable of things they never would have imagined.
I personally loved the voice of the narrator who was selected for this book and was excited to hear that she is also the narrator for the first book in this series which should be releasing in the near-future. She managed to make each of the characters sound unique, and did an amazing job of matching her voice to the energy of the story.
I thoroughly enjoyed this story and loved that it as able to bring history to life through it's characters. Jocelyn Green did an amazing job with the research and development and it was clear through her storytelling. I highly recommend this series to historical fiction fans!

Incredible Read!
Revisado: 03-15-19
This book has been super high on my TBR pile since before it was released so I was excited to finally get my hands on a copy of the audio version through audible. I thought the narrator did an incredible job and successfully grasped the energy and emotion of the story.
I was introduced to Stephenia’s writing last year when I read her book Her Place in Time. Since then I’ve added the rest of her books to my TBR pile. I really appreciate her ability to draw the reader into the story in a way that you feel as if you are standing in the midst of the characters.
For once I can share one of my favorite moments in a book without it being a spoiler. My favorite scene in this book was when Evelyn invited herself to a local get-together and when approached about her presence she changed the subject by complimenting them on their bookshelf. This is wise advice that made me chuckle. I now know what to do in the event I want to crash a party! 😉
I appreciated the author’s ability to share the story from a unique perspective. War is a violent, turbulent ordeal. When it comes to the Civil War it wasn’t uncommon to hear of families and friends divided by their loyalties. Today we are taught that the war was fought strictly over slavery, but when you investigate deeper there was certainly more to it as well. Stephenia has approached these topics with both honesty and sensitivity.
This story was quickly able to grip my attention and held me captive until the very end. I really love Stephenia’s writing and can’t wait to read more from her in the future. I can’t recommend this one enough!

Intense Ride!
Revisado: 03-15-19
Wow, talk about one intense ride! I've read Jaime Jo Wright's other novels and LOVED them so I was happy to finally get my hands on her award-winning debut. I'm pleased to share that her writing has been masterful right from the beginning!
I was really impressed with the narrator. Her voice matched the energy and intensity of the story and really made it come to life. This was a very entertaining book to listen to. Although I was able to listen to it over two nights at work, even at home this wouldn't be an easy one to press the pause button.
I love that Jaime Jo's books are incredibly unpredictable. When you open the book you can expect to go on a wild (and often scary) ride of mystery and suspense from two timelines that weave together into the perfect masterpiece by the time you reach the conclusion. I really appreciate that she is able to share suspenseful stories that have conclusions that don't compromise on Christian values. Each book has a part where the characters talk about a heart change and/or message the Lord has taught them through their ordeal. her books aren't overly "preachy" but the moments where she shares Christ are perfectly written to get people thinking.
This story really got my heart pumping. It was realistic and suspenseful. The characters and setting were well developed. I was quickly sucked into the world of Foster Hill and held captive to the very end. I felt like I was on the same journey right alongside Ivy and Kaine. This is a story that's sure to stay with me for a very long time.
*Just a big of a content warning, but I think this book has some elements that may be triggers for PTSD and sexual assault. Part of this story talks about human trafficking and there is some stalking and domestic abuse that can be difficult for some readers.
