Historia
The Bottom of the Sky is an aching rags to riches family saga that surges from rural squalor into the opulent power chambers of Wall Street and Silicon Valley. The story contrasts the 30-year struggles of an abused sister and brother who seek to reclaim themselves from their abhorrent past. One is abandoned to a life of sexual desecration and addiction. The other escapes with his demons to wield fragile, uncanny genius and unrelenting ambition to amass staggering wealth.

Great listen!
Revisado: 01-11-17
If you could sum up The Bottom of the Sky in three words, what would they be?
Sad, honest, necessary...
What did you like best about this story?
The honesty of the characters. There are very few happy endings here but the truth isn't always sweet.
Which character – as performed by Scott Brick – was your favorite?
Levi is really the only character that was completely developed. He was not easy to like but certainly easy to understand given his circumstances.
If you could take any character from The Bottom of the Sky out to dinner, who would it be and why?
Angela.
Any additional comments?
There are parts of this story that make it hard to continue listening. Those same parts make it impossible to stop. Well done!

Historia
This transcendent story follows four college friends who move to New York City, buoyed by ambition: Willem, an aspiring actor; JB, an artist; Malcolm, an architect; and, at the center, Jude, a withdrawn, brilliant attorney haunted by an unspeakable past. Through decades of shared and separate lives, Jude’s suffering - and its impact on those who love him - raises questions about the limits of human endurance, the possibility for redemption, and the meaning of friendship.

Depressing, sad and painful...and really long.
Revisado: 11-17-15
What disappointed you about A Little Life?
Not one bright spot... not a single little sliver of light. The narration was much too young for the character. Left me empty and very sad.
What do you think your next listen will be?
Something much lighter.
Would you listen to another book narrated by Oliver Wyman?
Yes.
You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?
After just finishing 30 hours of it I can't find a single reason to recommend it. Maybe in time I can revisit this question.
Any additional comments?
Total and complete sadness.

But a series of seismic events deal a crushing blow to their dreams.

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?
No. It was not an interesting listen. The story was weak and didn't really have any point.
Would you ever listen to anything by Janelle Brown again?
No.
Did the narration match the pace of the story?
Yes.
Do you think This Is Where We Live needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?
No. It does not need any sort of followup. It needs a Lifetime movie.

John Grisham could not write something this awful!
Revisado: 11-13-14
What disappointed you about Gray Mountain?
Everything! This is not what anyone expects from John Grisham. Nothing about this book was worth the time.
Would you ever listen to anything by John Grisham again?
Not without some convinving...
Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Catherine Taber?
Her voice is juvenile and annoying. Not something you expect to hear from John Grisham.
What character would you cut from Gray Mountain?
It wouldn't matter. Before cutting characters you need a developed plot.

Revisado: 05-28-14
What did you love best about We Are Water?
I enjoyed the characters and loved the narration. Even the difficult scenes were handled with grace and didn't lose a bit of the intensity. It isn't easy to find a novel as satisfying as this one.

Historia
In 1989 Ken Follett astonished the literary world with The Pillars of the Earth, set in 12th-century England. Readers and listeners ever since have hoped for a sequel. At last, here it is. Although the two novels may be listened to in any order, World Without End also takes place in Kingsbridge, two centuries after the townspeople finished building their exquisite Gothic cathedral. The cathedral is again at the center of a web of love and hate, greed and pride, ambition and revenge.

What would have made World Without End better?
A plot even remotely different from Pillars of the Earth.
What was most disappointing about Ken Follett’s story?
It was the same story I have already listened to for 45 hours. I expected something different. The characters are the same without even one plot deviation.

Confusing waste of time
Revisado: 07-08-13
This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?
Nothing
What was most disappointing about Caitlin R. Kiernan’s story?
Not at all
How could the performance have been better?
This was not coherent writing. It reminded me of words thrown randomly at paper and then called a story
What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?
Disappointment and the anger at the time and book credit I wasted. I want my credit back

Historia
In his tragicomic debut - equal parts dark comedy, nostalgia trip, and rousing tale of redemption - manchild and small-town Indiana resident Hank Fitzpatrick stumbles through and beyond adolescence in the late 1980s. Hypersexual, drunk, stoned, occasionally Catholic, accidentally well-intentioned Hank doesn’t know it yet, but his life is about to implode in spectacular fashion.

Don't waste your credit....
Revisado: 05-16-13
Would you try another book from Brian Sweany and/or Johnny Heller?
It was painful to listen to this one. The voice was grating and made it difficult to get through the story. Unfortunately the story line was not any better than the narration. I can't recommend this one.
Would you ever listen to anything by Brian Sweany again?
No....
How did the narrator detract from the book?
The voice was irritating and choppy... it sounds like even the narrator is bored with story and rushing toward the end. The singing is horrible and really detracts from the story line.... the entire experience was right up there with mosquitoes buzzing around in my headset.
If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Exotic Music of the Belly Dancer?
Please cut the singing.... Completely annoying!
