Historia
Ralph Elllison's Invisible Man is a monumental novel, one that can well be called an epic of modern American Negro life. It is a strange story, in which many extraordinary things happen, some of them shocking and brutal, some of them pitiful and touching—yet always with elements of comedy and irony and burlesque that appear in unexpected places. It is a book that has a great deal to say and which is destined to have a great deal said about it.

Thank you, Audible.

The thoughtfulness and where with all of gifting such an amazing performance of Invisible Man during this latest cycle of uncertainty has caused me to look upon CEOs and Corporations of the world with maybe just a tad less ire.

Historia
In one of the most timely political books in years, Gail Collins declares that "what happens in Texas doesn't stay in Texas anymore." Gail Collins's fascination with Texas began rather abruptly in that distant spring of 2009 when she heard Governor Rick Perry - back to the wall, boots to the ground - address a Tea Party rally full of passionate Texans who seemed to be interested in seceding from the Union. "How long had this been going on?" she wondered, on behalf of the rest of the nation. "Was it something that we said?"

What did you like best about this story?
As a Texas outsider (even though I came to live here in grade school 30+ years ago), I was thrilled someone had decided to examine and explain(expose) the Texas mystique.
What does Gail Collins bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
Gail collins is able to maintain a dead pan performance that suits her comedic style perfectly. There is also an almost bored quality to her narration that helps keep the narrative from being too emoitionally raw, and keeps the hysteria to a minimum.

Historia
Only a handful of fictional characters are recognized by first name alone. Dean Koontz’s Odd Thomas is one such literary hero, who has come alive in listeners’ imaginations as he explores the greatest mysteries of this world and the next with his inimitable wit, heart, and quiet gallantry. Now Koontz follows Odd as he is drawn onward, to a destiny he cannot imagine. Haunted by dreams of an all-encompassing red tide, Odd is pulled inexorably to the sea, to a small California coastal town where nothing is as it seems.

What a disappointing turn for a series. I am not a fan of writers who thinly disguise their own political and social views through the hero in the novel. The once unique character of Odd Thomas is now just a mouth piece for Mr. Koontz's political, religious, and moral views - if I want political insight into the Iraq War, I will download Bob Woodward and if I want political propaganda I will unblock Fox News from my cable box. Mr. Koontz goes beyond just expressing his point of view - through Odd Thomas he takes a moral high ground against those who may not be in complete agreement with his beliefs - "Good vs. Evil", "Your with us or against us..." "Stay the Course" Hmmm...where have we heard that before? *sigh* I was disappointed and slightly insulted by Odd Hours.
