Historia
The dungeon is surrounded, the refugees have made it to safety, but...they need food, water, space to recover and rest, and none of these things come cheap. That cost must be paid in mana. Mike and Kelly were sent to bring reinforcements from the park, but they're walking into a meatgrinder, one that will strip the life from them, then raise them to besiege those they love. Matt has only one chance...lead the refugees, forge them anew into a force that can face the undead, in their tens of thousands.

Hot Garbage
Revisado: 12-27-24
The author managed to make everyone even dumber, more immature, shortsighted, and lazy. Nobody learns anything, and people are absentminded in situations that would demand the attention of even the most inveterate of wool-gatherers. I think the problem is that it isn't possible for an author to write characters that are smarter than they are.

MC = Idiot
Revisado: 12-25-24
The MC can't go 30 minutes without being captured and disarmed. Then the bad guys miraculously leave him alive long enough for him to escape. you can do this once or twice in a book, but I've still got six hours to go, and it's happened 8 times. this book is just fine for free, but for the love of all that is holy, don't spend a credit on it.

Free was the correct price for this one.
Revisado: 07-29-24
The story was far weaker than the first two, but it might have been ok if not for the spectacularly terrible miscasting of the narrator. He's not a terrible narrator, he was just terribly wrong for this book. And wasn't just that he kept mispronouncing words, especially the main character's name. it was also the way he read the MC, whiny, petulant, and overemotional. listen to it while it's free. Not worth a credit.

Historia
Up until now, Montana's gotten by pretending he's a regular guy. Well, a regular, overpowered, god-defeating guy who maybe just learned his hair is in all the wrong places. But the big city is calling, and in order to succeed there, Montana must actually prove himself a deserving duke. If Glaton finds him lacking, Coggeshall could be forced into even further isolation. But if Glaton falls in love with him, the regular guy from Motor City could end up with limitless power, in charge of it all. And just like that, the fate of the entire Empire is in Montana's hands.

James, not Jim.
Revisado: 01-07-23
The author is Jim Butchers son, and it seems his plan was to cash in on his father's reputation. The book is bad. The main character is boring and unlikeable, and the plot is almost nonexistant. Don't let the name, cover art, and font fool you. This world is small and uninteresting compared to the Dresden Files. Save your credit. I'll be getting mine back very soon.

From fun to terrible.
Revisado: 12-21-22
Started fun, but about a third of the way through the main character suddenly became so stupid that it hurt me to finish the book. There isn't a real ending, the parade of stupid just abruptly stops with no resolution. Nothing is wrapped up, nothing gets solved. The author introduces one last uninteresting plot twist then gives up . Save your credit. I'll be returning this in the near future.

Historia
While on duty, Trig had received an Automated AEthereal Message from the OCSS Bone Wracker: a Call-To-Arms, an extremely rare type of message that was only issued when a ship encountered a situation that was beyond the capabilities of a single OCSS. Of course, the truly exciting news was that his superior, Thargus, was temporarily incapacitated, making Trig the acting First Shaman, giving him a front row seat to the investigation as part of the First Away Team. It appeared that, at long last, his on-duty life would get exciting enough to distract him from his off-duty life.

Surprisingly Bad
Revisado: 05-28-22
I thought this would be a fun 40K treatment of the Mary Sue / Fan-fic, Demons of Astlan trilogy. But it wasn't. It was just a bunch of boring speeches and tensionless action scenes. It's half the length of the other books, but felt like it took twice as long. A really bad book, even by the standards of the genre.

Just a lovely book.
Revisado: 01-29-22
It's a supernatural, police procedural, murder mystery, set in London. No one part is emphasized over the others and the result is a book that's interesting and engaging the whole way through. I was just as eager to find out more about the magic system / hidden world as I was about Met traning and political structure. It's a great book, read by the correct narrator.
The wheels start to come off the series in book 6, and book 7 feels like they replaced the author, but the first five just flew by.

I hate it when the characters forget all the lessons they learned in the first books because the author ran out of interesting ideas. Not a terrible book, but bad when held up to the first three.
