Historia
The year is 1921. Lesley Hamlyn and her husband, Robert, a lawyer and war veteran, are living at Cassowary House on the Straits Settlement of Penang. When “Willie” Somerset Maugham, a famed writer and old friend of Robert’s, arrives for an extended visit with his secretary Gerald, the pair threatens a rift that could alter more lives than one. Maugham, one of the great novelists of his day, is beleaguered: Having long hidden his homosexuality, his unhappy and expensive marriage of convenience becomes unbearable after he loses his savings—and the freedom to travel with Gerald.

Historia
This playful, entertaining, and mind-bending introduction to modern physics briskly explains Einstein's general relativity, quantum mechanics, elementary particles, gravity, black holes, the complex architecture of the Universe, and the role humans play in this weird and wonderful world. Carlo Rovelli, a renowned theoretical physicist, is a delightfully poetic and philosophical scientific guide. He takes us to the frontiers of our knowledge: To the most minute reaches of the fabric of space, back to the origins of the cosmos, and into the workings of our minds.

Insightful and explains a complex and fascinating topic in a way that provides much food for thought. I both read the book and listened to the audible version, glad I did both.

Historia
Two teenagers, a Greek Cypriot and a Turkish Cypriot, meet at a taverna on the island they both call home. In the taverna, hidden beneath garlands of garlic, chili peppers and creeping honeysuckle, Kostas and Defne grow in their forbidden love for each other. A fig tree stretches through a cavity in the roof, and this tree bears witness to their hushed, happy meetings and eventually, to their silent, surreptitious departures. The tree is there when war breaks out, when the capital is reduced to ashes and rubble, and when the teenagers vanish.

Lovely Book
Revisado: 07-06-23
Elif Shafak is a gifted story teller and has a beautiful imagination. I loved learning about the history of Cypress while being enthralled is a love story. In many ways different from The Forty Rules of Love but with the same unique perspective of moving from the past to the present.

Weak story line and characters
Revisado: 06-22-23
The female character is annoying and stereotypical of a weak woman. Barely able to finish the book the only reason I stuck with it was the narrator is so good. I wish he would find more talented authors to read for.

Difficult to get through
Revisado: 01-30-23
The main character development was weak. They were frustrating, simple minded and naive; continually making bad choices when they were suppose to be intelligent women. The story line was weak.

I’ve read all the series and it is a fun story and entertaining however becoming predictable. If you loved the others you will enjoy this one. As always the primary attraction is the narrator, A. Wyndham. I wish he would narrate for more authors.
