Historia
In September 1921, four young men and Ada Blackjack, a diminutive 25-year-old Eskimo woman, ventured deep into the Arctic in a secret attempt to colonize desolate Wrangel Island for Great Britain. Two years later, Ada Blackjack emerged as the sole survivor of this ambitious polar expedition. This young, unskilled woman - who had headed to the Arctic in search of money and a husband - conquered the seemingly unconquerable north and survived all alone after her male companions had perished.

Historia
For millennia, the Neanderthals dominated northern Europe's landscape, hunting, gathering and breeding. However, the arrival of the Cro-Magnon tribes presented the Neanderthals with a new and more powerful opponent—and their very survival was in jeopardy. The struggle for survival is reimagined in the fast-paced and fascinating historical novel The Last Neanderthal Clan. Charlie Boring and his extensive knowledge and passion for prehistoric civilization will transport listeners back to the cold climate of the Pleistocene period to witness the struggle for survival.

Historia
Nancy Wake, nicknamed 'the white mouse' for her ability to evade capture, tells her own story. As the Gestapo's most wanted person, and one of the most highly decorated servicewomen of the war, it's a story worth telling. After living and working in Paris in the 1930's, Nancy married a wealthy Frenchman and settled in Marseilles. Her idyllic new life was ended by World War II and the invasion of France. Her life shattered, Nancy joined the French Resistance and, later, began work with an escape-route network for Allied soldiers.

She was so brave.
Revisado: 01-03-24
Good stories about brave women in WWII are usually remarkable. The French went through use so much during the war.
This did not disappoint.

Historia
The massacre at Mountain Meadows on September 11, 1857, was the single most violent attack on a wagon train in the 30-year history of the Oregon and California trails. Yet it has been all but forgotten. Will Bagley's Blood of the Prophets is an award-winning, riveting account of the attack on the Baker-Fancher wagon train by Mormons in the local militia and a few Paiute Indians.

eh, I agree with many others writing reviews.
Revisado: 01-03-20
This book has so many problems when it comes to reality in Alaska. Grates every time she can't say Cheechako correctly, forgets when the sun goes down or doesn't in Alaska, finds a savior every turn of the road, says he built the cabin and lived on his own. I listened all the way through but it doesn't rate a good book review.

Historia
Billy Todd has always been different. Most people called him odd, and those were the nice people. Though he was born with a learning disability, Billy's parents never allowed him to consider himself disabled. Raised to be self-sufficient, Billy might not be as smart as some, but he was a lot smarter than people realized.

Historia
In 1942, the Gestapo sent out an urgent transmission: "She is the most dangerous of all Allied spies. We must find and destroy her." The target in their sights was Virginia Hall, a Baltimore socialite who talked her way into Special Operations Executive, the spy organization dubbed Winston Churchill's "Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare." She became the first Allied woman deployed behind enemy lines and - despite her prosthetic leg - helped to light the flame of the French Resistance, revolutionizing secret warfare as we know it.

Historia
The electricity has flickered out. The automobile age is over. In Union Grove, a little town in upstate New York, the future is nothing like people thought it would be. Life is hard and close to the bone. Transportation is slow and dangerous, so food is grown locally at great expense of time and energy, and the outside world is largely unknown. There may be a president, and he may be in Minneapolis now, but people aren’t sure.

Overall i liked this book. But was pretty unhappy about author's writing when a young woman was not raped but only touched by the hooligans against her will. treated sexual molestation like it was nothing because she was not raped.

GRAMMAR! ugg
Revisado: 07-20-18
This book has a nice story this is interesting and well written but verb usage is so horrid. 'The government' is singular, 'the family' is singular, 'the firm' is singular, 'the media' is singular but this book consistently uses the plural verb. I cringe with each 'were' or 'are' used following such words.

love love love this book
Revisado: 12-13-17
Would you consider the audio edition of The Fifth Sacred Thing to be better than the print version?
This is a fabulous story with many layers. Witches, empathy, earth, spirit, collaboration, interwoven with danger, threats, murder. A near utopia in the midst of ravage and fear. Cant wait for the sequel.
What other book might you compare The Fifth Sacred Thing to and why?
I have never read a comparison. This book has just enough witch and alt spiritual, metaphysical to grab my imagination. Should anyone know of something comparable please let me know.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
Each time the inhabitants have a group discussion I marvel at their interest in the whole, and show empathy for group.
Any additional comments?
