Exciting and satisfying

I’m so pleased with this book. It’s a prequel to the Pillars of Reality series and while containing many references and explanations for those books it stands wonderfully on its own as an adventure with thrills and friends and battles. Jack Campbell is the only writer I have encountered who can make battles whether on land in the sea or in space not only comprehensible but interesting to this old woman. The narrator was well chosen to bring the story to vivid life and I am now going to start all over to listen for a second time.

An excellent story, well presented.

I truly enjoyed this vivid excursion into what it means to be human. Also what can happen when you refuse to let go of the griefs of the past. Highly recommended.

Delightful zany adventure story

What made the experience of listening to Mr. Impossible the most enjoyable?

It moved along at a fast clip - I could hardly believe it when I realized I was nearly to the end, without being bored even once.

What did you like best about this story?

It hit all the tropes of an adventure story - fighting, treasure, madmen, romance, exotic locations- without getting heavy handed about it - plenty of humor along the way.

Which character – as performed by Kate Reading – was your favorite?

I think I'd have to vote for Rupert, the male lead, but all the supporting cast had their moments, it was really an ensemble cast, which is part of the charm of the whole book - I thought so when I read it in print as well.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

When Rupert tore Daphne's dead husband's character to shreds, I think. The drama with the pyramid viper was pretty good, but it wasn't *moving*, per se, just dashed exciting.

Any additional comments?

I like everything Loretta Chase has written, so I am hardly unbiased, but when performed by Kate Reading, this little gem sparkled enticingly. I forsee more than one relisten - I highly recommend it for cheering up when you doubt the goodness of the world, and want to be encouraged.

Would you consider the audio edition of The Last Hellion to be better than the print version?

I read the print version when it came out, and I liked it, though it didn't inspire me with a wow! response like mega-favorite The Last Scoundrel, but I bought the audio the instant it was available, and I am now listening for the second time. Wow! For me, this is the edition that brings out all the grace-notes.

Who was your favorite character and why?

It's usually a bit challenging to decide a favorite character in books I really like, but I have to say the two teenagers Elizabeth and Emily, Vere's nieces, really won my heart.

Have you listened to any of Kate Reading’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I've listened to many Kate Reading performances, and this one is top notch - note-perfect and not over done.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Spoiler Warning - the scene that moved me most was Vere climbing back into their bedroom window with Lydia's mother's family documents. First time through (well, ok, second time as well...) I teared up. The scene was written beautifully - understated and yet thick with emotion and smooth melodic prose. Just lovely.

Any additional comments?

It is a great pleasure that I have been able to acquire so much of Loretta's back-list in audio, and I hope the rest of them will become available in the near future, and with such good performances.

A long time favorite

Just finished my sixth reread. Excitement, humor and drama. What could possibly be better? I love the entire sprawling saga and this is my favorite Start with Agent of Change.
