Historia
Once upon a time, there was a winter that wouldn't end. And all that stands between the people of White Meadows and starvation is a young man called Lance. Lance is 16 years old, and for all his courage and hunting skills, he's running out of fight. His family has been wiped out in a border raid, and he's drowning in loneliness. When strangers arrive at White Meadows, all Lance can think of is using his last strength to drive them away. But these men have come in peace, not to burn and destroy. Among them is a hot-headed, utterly charming prince-in-training named Arthur.

Great narration and story
Revisado: 06-22-24
I have always adored Harper Fox’s prose. This has a similar feel to Song of Achilles in that it’s a retelling of an archetypal story. It’s so well done with just enough magic to make it more magical realism than fantasy to me.

Historia
Thomas McNulty, having fled the Great Famine in Ireland and now barely 17 years old, signs up for the US Army in the 1850s and with his brother in arms, John Cole, goes to fight in the Indian Wars - against the Sioux and the Yurok - and, ultimately, in the Civil War. Orphans of terrible hardships themselves, they find these days to be vivid and alive, despite the horrors they see and are complicit in. Moving from the plains of Wyoming to Tennessee, Sebastian Barry's latest work is a masterpiece of atmosphere and language.

I loved Aiden Kelly's dramatization of this book
Revisado: 02-05-20
The imagery and characterizations in this book are incredible. I found myself repeating phrases in hope that I would remember them when I could write them down. "Memory is a wild thing" and to be told of such brutality in the darker moments of our history, with such beautiful prose, it made it all the more breathtaking and surreal. Kelly's cadence even made the curse words sound lovely. I will listen to this audio many times.

Gripping story- fresh, intelligent look at BDSM
Revisado: 07-14-19
I am not in the scene, but this seems like a great portrayal of it. The actual sex and Scene took a back seat to respect, communication and trust. The main character has a personality disorder that I knew very little about and when you learn it, it brings some of the more confusing things together. This happens early enough in the book that I wasn't distracted with my own questions about what was happening. There are a lot of moving parts and history, which I appreciated because sometimes stories are too in the present without regard to how the past informs and influences our choices. I was just enthralled and listened whenever possible. The actor giving voice to the story was incredibly talented and I am going to have to search out anything else he has done. Now I wish the rest of the series was in audible, but I just have to read the books instead! highly recommend

Historia
My name is Jamie Atwood, and I'm an addict. I never thought I'd say such a thing. Never had a problem being overly attached to anything in my life. I came from a perfectly middle-class family, made good grades, and had a hot cheerleader girlfriend...but the truth is, nothing ever really moved me. So how did a guy like me become an addict? I met Michael Kage. Kage is an MMA fighter. A famous one. I like to think I helped him get that way.

Seyonne is a man waiting to die. Seyonne has made peace with his fate. With strict self-discipline he forces himself to exist only in the present moment and to avoid the pain of hope or caring about anyone.

Historia
Jamie Canning has never been able to figure out how he lost his closest friend. Four years ago, his tattooed, wisecracking, rule-breaking roommate cut him off without an explanation. So what if things got a little weird on the last night of hockey camp the summer they were 18? It was just a little drunken foolishness. Nobody died.

So good
Revisado: 04-19-17
If you could sum up HIM in three words, what would they be?
Growth, pursuit and friendship
What other book might you compare HIM to and why?
I love friends to lovers stories, but I feel put on the spot so I cannot think of anything. Maybe Sutphin Boulevard, but Him is more sweet and less gritty.
Have you listened to any of Teddy Hamilton and Jacob Morgan ’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
Haven't listened to them before I don't think and I really enjoyed this dual narration.
Who was the most memorable character of HIM and why?
Jamie for some reason his line, "dude, you know I'm from northern California, right?" stays with me. It was just such a laid back response to Wesley's coming out and I appreciated that it showed how difficult it was for Wesley to open up even to his best friend.
Any additional comments?
I just really liked the story, the dialogue and how the characters came together after following their own inner compass about their respective careers. I just liked that it was a mutual give and take.

So when an urgent telegram from Christine summons them to Egypt, Whyborne is reluctant to risk the fragile peace they've established. Until, that is, a man who seems as much animal as human tries to murder Whyborne in the museum. Amidst the ancient ruins of the pharaohs, they must join Christine and face betrayal, murder, and a legendary sorceress risen from the dead.

The narrator is improving
Revisado: 04-19-17
What made the experience of listening to Necropolis the most enjoyable?
I enjoyed the camel trying to eat Percival's fez throughout.
What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?
I have decided that I don't like books that take place in the desert. Although I did like learning a bit about the excavation of the Egyptian artifacts.
What did you like about the performance? What did you dislike?
I think the narrator is getting better about distinguishing his voices from one another or maybe I am just getting back at the subtle shifts in his tone. It does seem though that while he is trying to make the voices distinctive, sometimes a bit of the acting is lost in the delivery.
If you could rename Necropolis, what would you call it?
It suited the work.
Any additional comments?
This story was a little slow for me for some reason. I generally like the Whybourne and Griffin stories so this must be an indicator that I need to take a break and come back to them. It just seems that Percival uses magic and Griffin gets annoyed. Christine shows her remarkable resourcefulness and unwavering determination again and I guess I would just like a little variation on these characters. Although we did draw out more emotion from Christine in this story than I have ever noticed before. Maybe that was the problem is the story seemed more centered on her.

For the last year, Jay Warren has struggled to find the nerve to tell his wife he's gay. Every time he gets the chance, though, he freezes up. He's ashamed of hiding it all this time, he doesn't want to hurt her, and the guilt has been almost unbearable. When his wife dies suddenly, Jay's conscience threatens to eat him alive.

Oh My, I usually like Witt's stories but not this
Revisado: 10-10-16
What did you like best about For the Living? What did you like least?
I disliked the narrator and the MC Jay, who came across as a very selfish person. I DNF the audio so he may have gotten better, but after the "date" like a week after his wife's death, I was like NOPE.
What was most disappointing about L.A. Witt’s story?
Her failure to get me to sympathize with Jay, which I think was likely her intention because frankly I couldn't find anything likeable about him.
Did the narration match the pace of the story?
No, he was very slow and it made the story move slowly too.

Historia
A retired marine, Logan is methodical and conservative. Richard is a liberal pacifist who is pathologically afraid of guns. Yet the minute Logan sets eyes on Richard, his heart turns over like an old car engine, and it isn't long before his motor is revved and Richard is in the driver's seat - even if it seems like each man is driving a different car. Richard Hunter is parenting his grandson, and the kid - Nick - has had it rough. Richard vows nothing will stop him from creating a loving and stable home.

I DNF
Revisado: 08-18-16
Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?
I tried. I hate to give up on an audio book and perhaps I am at a disadvantage because I did not read the book first. I just didn't like it. I thought there was a lot of sex and I am no prude, but unfortunately it took away from the story for me rather than enhanced. I just kept saying "I get it, they are crazy hot for each other." Then it began to drag for me. It's like we are introduced to these characters that you know are going to create conflict and then I am just waiting for the conflict, like where is it? It's been chapters now and still the couple is doing a lot of feeling each other out and feeling each other up, but not much in terms of moving the plot forward. Doesn't Rick have to work, like ever? He spends the first half of the book getting injured and having sex with injuries - ouch.
If you’ve listened to books by Z.A. Maxfield before, how does this one compare?
No so I cannot draw a comparison.
What didn’t you like about JP Handler’s performance?
Very stilted at times and there was no cadence or rhythm to his speech. Like a child reading a primer book in places where each word is said properly but without inflection or pauses or nuances in speech. I also didn't hear much distinction between Rick and Logan's voices, if there was any. I like the tone of his voice, but I felt that he struggled with the material a little and was likely running the some internal monologue as me like "when are these guys going to quit jumping each other's bones?"
Was Family Unit worth the listening time?
Not for me.

Historia
Ash Winters is barely holding on, near drowning in his own darkness and fear. He lives a gray shadow of a life, sullen and cynical, unable to remember hope or happiness - much less the distant, fading glitterball of love. It has to be a sick joke of the universe that he finds himself hooked up with good-humored Essex boy Darian Taylor, a wannabe model in a sparkly jacket and a fake tan. Darian may not be an intellectual giant, but he's hysterically funny, and he's got the courage to challenge Ash to live again.

Nicholas Boulton does an incredible job
Revisado: 06-01-16
If you could sum up Glitterland in three words, what would they be?
poignant romantic heartbreaking
What was one of the most memorable moments of Glitterland?
When Ash goes to ask forgiveness from Darian and the beauty in Darian's ready forgiveness over the painful words that Ash had used, and learning that he was most hurt that Ash did not trust in his forgiveness and took six months to ask for it.
What about Nicholas Boulton’s performance did you like?
The Essex accent. But really everything was so well done. The inflections, intonations, I was wincing when I was supposed to be and laughing the next moment. Superb.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
A romance that is right mental.
Any additional comments?
Will listen to this one again soon as it is now on my list of favorites.
