Historia
Cannabis kingpin Burl Spoon has reigned over the Jackson County area for three decades, building a powerful backwoods empire. But behind a well-run organization, his personal life is crumbling—his daughter can’t stay clean; his son has hated him since coming out; and after enduring years of infidelity, his wife is straying too. Wes Browne attended our book club and read an excerpt! Loved the book, the author, and the accurate representation of our region of our home state of Kentucky!

Historia
Golden Globe-winning actor Michael C. Hall (Six Feet Under) performs Truman Capote's masterstroke about a young writer's charmed fascination with his unorthodox neighbor, the "American geisha" Holly Golightly. Holly - a World War II-era society girl in her late teens - survives via socialization, attending parties and restaurants with men from the wealthy upper class who also provide her with money and expensive gifts. Over the course of the novella, the seemingly shallow Holly slowly opens up to the curious protagonist.

The words read were simply beautiful. Such descriptions. Sweet Holly, I believe she landed on her feet, right?

Historia
As one of the music world’s most iconic artists and the cofounder of the organizations ONE and (RED), Bono’s career has been written about extensively. But in Surrender, it’s Bono who picks up the pen, writing for the first time about his remarkable life and those he has shared it with. In his unique voice, Bono takes us from his early days growing up in Dublin, including the sudden loss of his mother when he was fourteen, to U2’s unlikely journey to become one of the world’s most influential rock bands, to his more than twenty years of activism.

No Words
Revisado: 01-11-23
This performance was beautiful and engaging. But much more was the heart and life of a man laid bare so we might glimpse it for a moment. As a person of faith, Bono’s real, living faith caused me to question how am I living out mine. Seeing him strive to seek God, but recognizing early in his life, the difference in religion and faith was so inspiring. How he and his wife understood how they could act out their faith through service to those in need, beginning in their early 20’s was so different. I am amazed at how much he understood about God’s love, mercy, and most importantly grace at a young age leaves me without words. All of that and incredible music with band mates he clearly loves for over 40 years. So much accomplished and he isn’t finished. It was an honor to listen to this performance. I feel inspired to make a difference in my own sliver of the world. How can I help?!?!?!

Great story, but the mouth noises were hideous! The swallowing was unbearable. I’m so surprised that the editors didn’t remove them.
