For everyone who lives in 2 “worlds”
Revisado: 03-23-25
I really enjoyed this book since it provides not only details about the lives of the people who moved West towards California for a better life and of the Native Americans’ life as their world changed forever during the 1800s, but it also provides how it feels to be part of two worlds like John being part Native American and part Caucasian. Many of us live in two worlds like e.g. when you are of mixed origin or when you were born in one country but live your adult life in another or… This book at the end shows how being part of two worlds shapes and impacts us forever.

Historia
Two women develop a groundbreaking surgery: the Cesarean section. It's a highly dangerous procedure and the research is grueling, but even worse is the vitriolic response from men. Most don't trust the findings of women, and many can choose to deny their wives medical care. Already facing resistance on all sides, Nora is shaken when she meets a patient who will die without the surgery. If the procedure is successful, her work could change the world. But a failure could cost everything: precious lives, Nora's career, and the role women will be allowed to play in medicine.

Wonderful two books series
Revisado: 02-14-25
I enjoyed the second book in this series. I listened to the audio book version and the reader did a great job portraying the different characters and their emotions. Both books show the state of medicine in the mid 1800s and the search in science and innovation, while at the same time showing how women who did not choose the conventional path of the time had to convince their environment of their skills and could be successful if they found open-minded mentors. A testimony to never take equality for granted and to stand up for it.

I enjoyed this book for its historical background in medical science, women being scientists even if it had to be in hiding and a nice love story.
