I have no idea what the other reviewers are talking about. This book is narrated by the author. It’s not auto-generated narration.

The content is top notch. For all the people whining that it’s the same thing over and over again (get your books in order and use accrual accounting, get your add backs sorted out correctly) YES, it is.

This is real life where there are no secrets. Just execution of the fundamentals.

LeBron James isn’t the best at basketball because he has some special secret hack or drinks goji berry tea 4 times a day or has alien slime in his sneakers. LeBron James, like Shaq or Michael Jordan or literally anyone else who’s good at anything, focuses on the fundamentals.

That’s what this book will teach you. The fundamentals to selling your business.

Out of 400+ personal finance and “self improvement” books this is in my short list of top 10 favorites.

It’s NOT fun to read. It will challenge your current lifestyle and viewpoints.

But as they say “If you like what you’re getting, keep doing what you’re doing”. If there’s an area of your life that needs improvement, maybe try reading something with a different perspective. If that’s the case, this is your book.

Before we start the review, I think you should know my background. I’ve run several dietary supplement companies and am currently writing a book on nutrition. My entire career is nutrition/fitness, and I walk the walk. The book was read while biking 2-hours through a thunderstorm after doing a brutal Starting Strength Squat workout and jogging 3-miles.

Oh, and this insane behavior is normal. I’m out here biking 2-3 hours every day. It’s another average Monday on day 56 of a cut that’s stripped 23 pounds (and counting) off my frame.

All that biking means a lot of time in the saddle. This is spent, you guessed it, with audiobooks. ~400 of them as of this writing.

I know this sounds like I’m bragging, and perhaps I am. But it’s all a build up so you actually listen to what I have to say.

Now here’s the thing. I don’t read nutrition books on audible any more. I’ve been through all the bestsellers and they’re basically all garbage. Sure, they’re written well. But the information is pseudo-science or just plain wrong.

There are however, a mere handful of them that I would recommend. Among those, Michael Matthews Bigger Leaner Stronger currently stands at my #1 pick.

That said, his new book is more of the same. Outstanding writing that cuts to the heart of the matter.

Most of the world is sitting on their couch pushing dopamine buttons with a combination of fast food, reality TV, and FaceBook feeds.

I’ve seen the results of that life and it’s hell on earth. As Zig Ziglar says, you don’t pay the price for success, you enjoy the benefits of success. You pay the price for failure.

Been paying that price yourself? Sick of living a life you know isn’t your best life?

Read this.

We all have something to work on. Personally I have more issues than the next 10-people. I struggle with this just as much as you do. We all need a little pick me up now and then.

I will warn you though. This book is not for weenies. Excuses are unwelcome at this party.

Mike pulls no punches. If you’re looking for some feel good crash diet nonsense, this isn’t your book. If you’re afraid of hard work, this isn’t your book.

But if you’re looking to change your life, start here.

Then get off your ass and do the damn work already.

Junk Science

This book is basically about 50% true.

My full time occupation involves writing about nutrition and formulating products in the dietary supplement and food space. Human nutrition is basically all I think about, from waking to falling asleep. My favorite past time is digging into scientific studies and exploring esoteric concepts. I also try to keep a very open mind about new concepts in this space. I don't have a set agenda (low carb, paleo, etc...).

With that said, this book is junk. About 50% of everything the author says is wrong. It's either pure conjecture with no scientific basis, or just factually inaccurate.

Worse yet, the whole book reeks of "fad diet". Things like "detoxification causes weight loss" and specifically telling readers to avoid exercise. Plus a bunch of weird quizzes that are meant to make you think you have undiagnosed problems with specific "bad foods".

Do you ever get tired? Have you ever been depressed? Sleep in on Saturdays? Poop regularly? Great news! You have a problem with environmental toxins. Try my miracle diet.

I literally couldn't read more than 1 hour of this book before having to return it. I loaded up the Great Courses Nutrition lecture to purge this nonsense from my brain. Sorry J.J. Smith, your phony credentials don't fool me. I'm going to go listen to a real Registered Dietician who's actually gone to, you know, college, for this stuff.

Avoid this book at all costs...
