Historia
In her groundbreaking new book, Dr. Judith Orloff leads listeners to the heart of a radical revolution in health care: the union of medicine and intuition, of body, mind, and soul. We're all born with the gift of intuition; many of us have long ago blocked that "indisputable sense of rightness" which is our truest inner compass.

She lost me at Dr Oz
Revisado: 06-23-24
I believe there is efficacy in spiritual practices of all types. This book, however, opens up with the author's apparent reliance on Dr Oz to move past living room Reiki into the operating room. I don't trust Oz. Maybe I threw the baby out with the bathwater but this book is not for me or, likely, others who seek quiet, contemplative health and healing.

Historia
The world’s greatest bodybuilder. The world’s highest-paid movie star. The leader of the world’s sixth-largest economy. That these are the same person sounds like the setup to a joke, but this is no joke. This is Arnold Schwarzenegger. And this did not happen by accident. Arnold’s stratospheric success happened as part of a process. As the result of clear vision, big thinking, hard work, direct communication, resilient problem-solving, open-minded curiosity, and a commitment to giving back. All of it guided by the one lesson Arnold’s father hammered into him above all: be useful.

I thought I would get Kindergarten Cop but got Conan the O'Brien
Revisado: 05-05-24
First. I don't like violent films, machismo, course language, or calling people names. I'm not a wimp. I'm sensitive. So, why did I buy a book from a man whose life is all about portraying violence as a legitimate tool to achieve goals? The title. Be Useful.
There are some relevant good stories in here but he lost me with his base-F language. Particularly when he called some people stupid. He’s very critical and condescending of certain types. He’s all about building up at any cost. I get it. It worked for him. He’s wealthy with a pet pig, a home studio, and a hot tub where he smokes his stogies. I'm a 68 year old unpublished poet dripping in snowflakes.
Ah-nuld has good intentions: climate, caring for those who need a hand up, and championing hard work over hours on social media. I'm sure his message will resonate with fans of Terminator and Conan. For those with a gentle soul, not so much.
He does drop some humor in that's more like Conan O'Brien dad jokes. Like, he wants his money back for the accent reduction classes he took.
I’ve always been a one who strives to be kind, do good works, and be useful. These ideals are in Be Useful. They're just between F-bombs. Not kindergarten language.
I'll get on my blanket and take my nap now.

I should have known better.
Revisado: 12-05-23
Why can't we have conversations about spirituality, right living, and happiness WITHOUT invoking some manmade god? The book started off well until it turned to god. Not for me.

Prosaic and Uninspired
Revisado: 09-20-21
We all encounter a voice and delivery that hits us wrong. This narration ruined the content for me. The delivery is affected, mechanical, unemotional. The opposite of what is needed for a work like this. I only got two-thirds through it.
I'm sure the narrator has done better work. She has a good voice. She just didn't connect with this content.
