Millions of Amor Towles fans are in for a treat as he shares some of his shorter fiction: six stories based in New York City and a novella set in Golden Age Hollywood. The New York stories, most of which take place around the year 2000, consider the fateful consequences that can spring from brief encounters and the delicate mechanics of compromise that operate at the heart of modern marriages.

The short stories were masterful. Eve in Hollywood has laugh outloud humor even for those not near its golden gates. The reader is also one of the best a I've heard on Audible creating a plethora of different voices. It is impossible to choose a favorite story. The first resonated because it captures the dreadful irony of the Communist system. The story of the tapestry would make a delightful player, poking fun at "old money" and new. It is the story of Eve that has us laughing and begs to be a short feature film.

Historia
In the late 1970s, the National Security Agency still did not officially exist - those in the know referred to it dryly as the No Such Agency. So why, when NSA engineer Charles Gandy filed for a visa to visit Moscow, did the Russian Foreign Ministry assert with confidence that he was a spy? Outsmarting honey traps and encroaching deep enough into enemy territory to perform complicated technical investigations, Gandy accomplished his mission in Russia but discovered more than State and CIA wanted him to know.

Fascinating topic. Learn about history but with information that is relevant today. A coup in presenting a factual narrative. I recommend this book to those who serve in our secret services as well as those like me who study from afar.

it's has more twists than a spiralized zucchini. The characters,as always, are so well drawn. The family realistic and loveable. And enough actions for an"action" Movie or TV series. Start with the first book in the series. I promise you won't stop until you've read them all.

I would have given it 5☆ if I hadn't been able to figure who committed the murder in the next to last chapter.
The characters were well developed and interesting. The story was original and very well written. I would definitely recommend this to friends and look forward in reading other books by her.

Historia
James A. Garfield may have been the most extraordinary man ever elected president. Born into abject poverty, he rose to become a wunderkind scholar, a Civil War hero, and a renowned and admired reformist congressman. Nominated for president against his will, he engaged in a fierce battle with the corrupt political establishment. But four months after his inauguration, a deranged office seeker tracked Garfield down and shot him in the back. But the shot didn’t kill Garfield. The drama of what happened subsequently is a powerful story of a nation in turmoil.

It is much more than the tragic assaignation of a man who would have been a brilliant US, The provides a history of technological and medical advances through ooortraits of their personalities and lives. What could have been dry and boring becomes alive with stories of post Civil War Republican politics and the doctors who forwarded medical knedge Andromeda who remained blindly ignorant. Very relevant in our Era of covid,

Couldn't ask for a better mystery. Twists at every turn. Lauren Ambrose was an outstanding narrator. The people came alive. Of course every mystery has to have villains, but the other people were indeed lovable. Couldn't ask for more.

Did you know that most of our dinosaur fossils were discovered because two grown men absolutely hated each other? It’s true! Rivals! Frenemies Who Changed the World is a riotous audio exclusive, like if Monty Python taught your history class. Each volume of four 30-minute histories will dig into the petty name-calling and grumbling grudges that led to many of the world’s greatest advancements, all delivered with a cheeky sense of humor. Choose sides: Cope or Marsh, the jerks who discovered so many dinosaurs; Hamilton or Burr, whose rivalry fueled American politics; and many more....

Historia
Chemist Elizabeth Zott is not your average woman. In fact, Elizabeth Zott would be the first to point out that there is no such thing as an average woman. But it’s the early 1960s and her all-male team at Hastings Research Institute takes a very unscientific view of equality. Except for one: Calvin Evans; the lonely, brilliant, Nobel–prize nominated grudge-holder who falls in love with—of all things—her mind. True chemistry results.

No Wonder it's a Best Seller
Revisado: 07-18-22
The book is outstanding because it combines humor with serious issues. The characters are quirky. Most are lovable. Bonnie Garmus writes of the early 1950s, when women had great difficulty getting a credit card (My mother had to guarantee to pay if I failed to do so, to get credit at Sears.) We were expected to marry at the end of college, which most of my friends did. At my first job I was paid less than the men teachers. I was fortunate that all of our heroine's difficulties didn't befall me, but then I was traditional in most cultural ways.
Whatever one's age, the book is delightful and very enlightening for those who have had the benefits of progress in women's rights.
It is already being turned into a movie whose screen writer wrote Erin Brockovich.
