Historia
One of the 20th century's most challenging novels of ideas, The Fountainhead champions the cause of individualism through the story of a gifted young architect who defies the tyranny of conventional public opinion. The struggle for personal integrity in a world that values conformity above creativity is powerfully illustrated through three characters: Howard Roarke, a genius; Gail Wynand, a newspaper mogul and self-made millionaire; and Dominique Francon, a devastating beauty.

Historia
In Super Bowl XLIX, Seahawks coach Pete Carroll made one of the most controversial calls in football history: With 26 seconds remaining, and trailing by four at the Patriots' one-yard line, he called for a pass instead of a handing off to his star running back. The pass was intercepted, and the Seahawks lost. Critics called it the dumbest play in history. But was the call really that bad? Or did Carroll actually make a great move that was ruined by bad luck? Even the best decision doesn't yield the best outcome every time.

The Moral Landscape
- How Science Can Determine Human Values

Historia
In this explosive new book, Sam Harris tears down the wall between scientific facts and human values, arguing that most people are simply mistaken about the relationship between morality and the rest of human knowledge. Harris urges us to think about morality in terms of human and animal well-being, viewing the experiences of conscious creatures as peaks and valleys on a "moral landscape".

Well worth reading but incomplete
Revisado: 02-04-18
Sam Harris is a deep thinker and highly regarded scientist and atheist. His books are well thought out and relatively easy to understand.
I read it twice and enjoyed it very much.
I do have a couple of issues with his logic and premises. First, his explanation of why he thinks there’s no such thing as free will is convoluted and full of contradictions. For example he recently debated Ben Shapiro on his podcast and afterwards was asked by an audience member what she should teach her teenage son about morality, given he is not responsible for his behavior (given there no free will). Sam basically said the mother should lie to him and tell him that he is responsible for his behavior, which directly contradicts his proposals in this book.
Second, his metric of human happiness is based on “well being”, which is reasonable. However he then goes on to say that we should all pursue happiness as defined by the happiness of, and contributions to, others (altruism). So think about what made America great: individualism. We fought numerous wars in the 20th century to defeat various forms of collectivism (fascism, Nazism, communism, etc). How can he look at the history of the world and the more recent successes and prosperity of America and advocate for a “return” to collectivism?
Many other valid points are made and I appreciate his insights.
Overall it is a thought-provoking book and worth your time.

Historia
The Big Three in Economics reveals the battle of ideas among the three most influential economists in world history: Adam Smith, representing laissez faire; Karl Marx, reflecting the radical socialist model; and John Maynard Keynes, symbolizing big government and the welfare state. History comes alive in this fascinating story of opposing views that continue to play a fundamental role in today's politics and economics.

Terrific insights
Revisado: 06-30-17
Great recap of the chronological and philosophical evolution of economics through the last 250 years. The author clearly favors the Adam Smith model but he does give an honest appraisal of the Marx and Keynes models as well, with plenty of research and insights to support his positions.
Highly recommended!!!
