Historia
Something new entered our world in November 2022—the first general purpose AI that could pass for a human and do the kinds of creative, innovative work that only humans could do previously. Wharton professor Ethan Mollick immediately understood what ChatGPT meant: after millions of years on our own, humans had developed a kind of co-intelligence that could augment, or even replace, human thinking. Through his writing, speaking, and teaching, Mollick has become one of the most prominent and provocative explainers of AI.

Revisado: 04-15-24
I thoroughly enjoyed this book, and will give it a second listen, maybe even a third. From where I sit, it's an excellent over view of the current state of AI, and a compelling glimpse into the future.
Well done, Mr. Mollick!

Joseph Patrick Kennedy - whose life spanned the First World War, the Roaring Twenties, the Great Depression, the Second World War, and the Cold War - was the patriarch of America’s greatest political dynasty. The father of President John F. Kennedy and Senators Robert and Edward Kennedy, 'Joe' Kennedy was an indomitable and elusive figure whose dreams of advancement for his nine children were matched only by his extraordinary personal ambition and shrewd financial skills.

Outstanding account of an amazing person/company
Revisado: 03-19-23
Having worked in insurance for 38 years, I found this to be an interesting account of Mr. Greenberg's professional life, and the story of an amazing company. Narration was... amusing, since every sentence seemed to end in an exclamation point.
That issue aside, I thoroughly enjoyed this book, and finished it within two days of starting. It was that good.
Insurance companies I worked for (all competitors of AIG) were led by capable people who would never have had the foresight, or moxie, to lead as Greenberg did.
That AIG went from a market capitalization of $180 billion to $37 billion (as of March 17 2023) is a crying shame, and a tragic loss for employees and long term shareholders.

Historia
For five centuries, Martin Luther has been lionized as an outspoken and fearless icon of change who ended the Middle Ages and heralded the beginning of the modern world. In Rebel in the Ranks, Brad Gregory, renowned professor of European history at Notre Dame, recasts this long-accepted portrait. Luther did not intend to start a revolution that would divide the Catholic Church and forever change Western civilization. Yet his actions would profoundly shape our world in ways he could never have imagined.

Interesting and informative
Revisado: 02-27-23
Having grown up in a Catholic environment, I found discussion of the Reformation particularly interesting. Narration was a bit flat, therefore somewhat disappointing. The author brings together the significance of the Reformation in the fourth and final chapter (chapters 9 and 10 in the audiobook version), which, to me, added meaningful context.

Historia
Ulysses S. Grant's life has typically been misunderstood. All too often he is caricatured as a chronic loser and an inept businessman or as the triumphant but brutal Union general of the Civil War. But these stereotypes don't come close to capturing him, as Chernow reveals in his masterful biography, the first to provide a complete understanding of the general and president whose fortunes rose and fell with dizzying speed and frequency.

An appropriately nuanced profile of a great man
Revisado: 01-29-23
I've heard complaints, mainly from family members who read this book, that there was a surfeit of details of battles and military campaigns of the Civil War. Being a fan of that period of American history, such criticism did not resonate with me.
Did Grant exhibit common human failings (e.g. placing too much trust in the judgment of friends and aides)? Certainly, he did. Was he a brilliant strategist, able to comprehend the big picture better than most? We was.
To me, my appreciation for this book, and the work that went into it, stems from reading what i thought was a balanced profile of a fine leader who steered a course for America, first through a successful conclusion to the most traumatic period in American history, and then through eight years of presidency attempting to repair the wounds of a great and terrible war.
On this basis, I'd say that Ron Chernow succeeded in writing a fine book; one I am happy to have read.

A member of the Sac and Fox Nation, he was an All-American football player at the Carlisle Indian School, the star of the first class of the Pro Football Hall of Fame, and played major league baseball for John McGraw’s New York Giants. Award-winning journalist and author Simon Winchester takes readers on a personal tour of the Balkans. Combining history and interviews with the people who live there, Winchester offers a fascinating glimpse into the complex issues at work in this chaotic region. Unrest in the Balkans has gone on for centuries. A seasoned reporter, Winchester visited the region twenty years ago. When Kosovo reached crisis level in 1997, Winchester thought a return visit to the beleaguered area would help to make sense out of the awful violence.
