Historia
Laurie Notaro has proved everyone wrong: she didn’t end up in rehab, prison, or cremated at a tender age. She just went gray. At past fifty, every hair’s root is a symbol of knowledge (she knows how to use a landline), experience (she rode in a car with no seat belts), and superpowers (a gray-haired lady can get away with anything). Though navigating midlife is initially upsetting—the cracking noises coming from her new old body, receiving regular junk mail from mortuaries—Laurie accepts it. And then some.

Great book! I highly recommend for any woman entering her 50's and beyond. Hillary Huber is one of my favorite narrators so that made it even better.

i just can't
Revisado: 02-27-24
I normally love Louise Allen & her books. She is my favorite of all the foster carers in England that write memoirs. I can't listen to this one. This is the 1st time I am unable to listen to one of her books. An 11 yr old should be worried about being an 11 yr old. She is a child. Stop the insanity. I'm not going to get into politics so I will end on that.

Is a robot reading this?
Revisado: 09-14-20
I'm not even trying to be funny...is a robot or some sort of automated voice reading this? I shouldn't rate the story or overall categories because I didn't even make it through the first 10 min. so I have no idea if it was a good story. I could not listen to the narration, it's just awful.

Historia
Friday, 12th February, 1993. Two outwardly unremarkable 10-year-old boys began the day by playing truant and ended it running an errand for the local video shop. In between they abducted and killed a two-year-old boy, James Bulger. In search of an explanation, award-winning journalist David James Smith looks behind the misinformation, misunderstanding and sensational reporting to an exact account of the events of that day. A sensitive and definitive account, The Sleep of Reason achieves a unique understanding of the James Bulger case.

Read "I Let Him Go" after reading this!
Revisado: 07-22-20
Before I say anything else, make sure you read "I Let Him Go" (a 5 star book in my opinion) by James Bulger's mother. There is no way anyone can tell me those monsters killed this poor little boy because they had bad child hoods, bad parents, suffered through poverty & it is society's fault. The word sociopath should have been used in this book. I have known people & read books about people who have had horrible childhoods that are hard to even believe are true. None of them ever even thought about harming.another person, let alone killing someone. As I'm re-listening to James's mother's book right now, I have to change my review from 4 stars to 3 stars for THIS book. I found it offensive that this author & his lefty liberal view is trying to blame society & the poor unfortunate childhood they had. There is NO excuse for what happened. If the only reason they committed this heinous crime really was because of their poor upbringing, then how about people choosing to not have kids if you can't raise them right or can't afford them? There is a mental sickness in these 2 little evil boys, plain & simple. The bad childhoods & bad parents didn't help, for sure...but this can not be the main reason these kids did what they did.

This story ENRAGED me
Revisado: 12-12-19
I haven't even finished this book yet but I feel compelled to leave a review because my blood is boiling!! This woman deserves a billion dollars for what those b*****s did to her, as well as what the so-called judge, detectives and prosecution did to her. The judge should have been disbarred for blatant bias, I just can not believe the evil in people. This is why I spend the majority of my time with dogs! They can not falsely accuse you over some horrible act because they have a grudge against you for something absolutely ridiculous!
That aside, the narration is excellent. Hillary Huber is one of my favs. I can listen to her all day, every day! I hope Tonya has a good life now...and these people are lucky she is so forgiving and isn't like someone like me. I would be out for revenge to the thousandth degree. I hope they get all that should be coming to them...you know what they say about karma...

Historia
I'm a 64-year-old retired lawyer and former Assistant Attorney General with an unusual story to tell. Every word of it is true. It happened in a state park known as Devil's Den. For fear of losing my job and damaging my reputation in the legal community, I never spoke about the incident. If it hadn't happened to me, I'd be skeptical too. In 1977, I was an active duty NCO in the USAF. A friend and I planned a two-night camping trip to explore the wilderness. We drove deep into the forest until we came to a high plateau. There on the horizon sat a perfect triangle of three very bright stars....

I have listened to many, many true crime books. For me, this is the best one as of yet. I think James Renner is brilliant! I also listened to his other book, " True Crime Addict" which was also excellent. I hope he writes more true crime.

Historia
As the story opens: Two-year-old Greta Greene is sitting with her grandmother on a park bench on the Upper West Side of Manhattan. A brick crumbles from a windowsill overhead, striking her unconscious, and she is immediately rushed to the hospital. But although it begins with this event and with the anguish Jayson and his wife, Stacy, confront in the wake of their daughter's trauma and the hours leading up to her death, Once More We Saw Stars quickly becomes a narrative that is as much about hope and healing as it is about grief and loss.

My heart & soul bled, gorgeously written
Revisado: 06-09-19
I have listened to & read many books in my life (most of them being memoirs, true crime, etc), but this one touched my soul to it's depths...more than any I have ever experienced before. Not only is the author an extraordinary writer, his narration just tore at my heart. You can clearly hear the unbelievable pain and grief swelling and overflowing in each word. My breath was literally taken from me many times throughout, and I often had to take a minute to gather myself together before listening on. My best wishes to him and his family.

Historia
It was supposed to be a harmless camping trip. Six wayward teenagers who'd run into trouble with the law, and their court-appointed guardians, Sara and Martin Randhurst. Three nights on a small, deserted island off of Michigan's upper peninsula. A time to bond, to learn, to heal. Then Martin told a campfire story about the island's history. Of the old civil war prison hidden in there, and the starving confederate soldiers who resorted to cannibalism to stay alive. Everyone thought it was funny. They even laughed when Martin pretended to be dragged off into the woods.

Four decades after it first shook the nation, then the world, William Peter Blatty's thrilling masterwork of faith and demonic possession returns in an even more powerful form. Raw and profane, shocking and blood-chilling, it remains a modern parable of good and evil and perhaps the most terrifying novel ever written.

Best horror novel I've read!
Revisado: 10-04-18
The author, who is also the narrator, is brilliant! If you have never seen the movie, watch it first then listen to the book. It was better than the movie...more detail, some differences, but it allows you to run the movie in your head. It was as entertaining, if not more, than watching the movie. LOVED, LOVED, LOVED it!!!!
