Historia
Henry V reigned over England for only nine years and four months and died at the age of just thirty-five, but he looms over the landscape of the late Middle Ages and beyond. The victor of Agincourt, he is remembered as the acme of kingship, a model to be closely imitated by his successors. William Shakespeare deployed Henry V as a study in youthful folly redirected to sober statesmanship. For one modern medievalist, Henry was, quite simply, “the greatest man who ever ruled England.”

great book.

I don't think a 15 word minimum is necessary. I thought the book very interesting. I really resent the fact that I am held to a 15 word minimum. as a result you won't see any more reviews from me.

Really good characters. Good mystery.
Revisado: 11-24-24
I am a big mystery fan and I found the stories satisfying, however there were a few things that confused me. For example the progress of time was confusing. There seemed to be gaps. Good editing would have weeded these things out. I felt like I had a scene fixed but it would turn out to be later that same day or even the next. Could not tell whether it was morning noon or night sometimes or the day after or before. A small thing really. The stories were very good and I loved the humor and the good narrator.

Good yarn though no surprises but satisfying enough

read several of his books and mostly this story is interesting and historical. my problem with the author is his fixation on women's breasts. He can't go more than a few pages before he is describing a woman's breasts. Tiresome. Juvenile.

entertaining

this is a good police procedural smart and atmospheric. I enjoy Ann Cleeves and PD James and I find this author is in that league. however the author tends to get their subject into fixes at the end and saves them at the last minute with some miracle hand of God thing which is cheating in my book.
still I will continue to select these books in hopes the author will get a bit more creative

Historia
In North Devon, where two rivers converge and run into the sea, Detective Matthew Venn stands outside the church as his estranged father’s funeral takes place. On the day Matthew left the strict evangelical community he grew up in, he lost his family, too. Now, as he turns and walks away again, he receives a call from one of his team. A body has been found on the beach nearby: a man with a tattoo of an albatross on his neck, stabbed to death. The case calls Matthew back to the people and places of his past, as deadly secrets hidden at their hearts are revealed.

Historia
Jean McConville's abduction was one of the most notorious episodes of the vicious conflict known as The Troubles. Everyone in the neighborhood knew the I.R.A. was responsible. But in a climate of fear and paranoia, no one would speak of it. In 2003, five years after an accord brought an uneasy peace to Northern Ireland, a set of human bones was discovered on a beach. McConville's children knew it was their mother when they were told a blue safety pin was attached to the dress--with so many kids, she had always kept it handy for diapers or ripped clothes.

Historia
The very strange but nevertheless true story of the dark underbelly of a 1960s hippie utopia. Laurel Canyon in the 1960s and early 1970s was a magical place where a dizzying array of musical artists congregated to create much of the music that provided the soundtrack to those turbulent times. But there was a dark side to that scene as well. Many didn't make it out alive, and many of those deaths remain shrouded in mystery to this day.

and your point?
Revisado: 11-04-22
couldn't figure out what the author's point is. all the names and dates and stories but no organized or plausible theory as to what all the facts he's gathered means. the author insinuates something bad has to be going on but he never explained what or why anything here is more than interesting gossip
I was hoping he tie it all up in the end but no.
still if you are interested in the SoCal Rick scene in the sixties it is sort of interesting.
the narrator needs to learn the proper pronunciations of the words he is reading.

Historia
In 1882, Emily Dickinson's brother Austin began a passionate love affair with Mabel Todd, a young Amherst faculty wife, setting in motion a series of events that would forever change the lives of the Dickinson family. The feud that erupted as a result has continued for over a century. Lyndall Gordon, an award-winning biographer, tells the riveting story of the Dickinsons and reveals Emily to be a very different woman from the pale, lovelorn recluse that exists in the popular imagination.

The whole book is quite interesting
Revisado: 08-27-22
Some readers have said the second half of the story is less compelling. The first part that traces Emily Dickinson and her circle is fascinating for sure. I feel I have a better understanding and appreciation of her life and her work. The second half is about her literary legacy and who is to oversee and control her image. A very important part of the story and equally compelling as we see the rivals play out a drama that began with betrayal and infidelity.
