Historia
Across the centuries, we journey from the great empires of Mesopotamia to those of Khmer and Vijayanagara in Asia and Songhai in West Africa; from Byzantium to the Maya, Inca and Aztecs of Central America; from Roman Britain to Rapa Nui. With meticulous research, breathtaking insight and dazzling, empathic storytelling, historian and novelist Paul Cooper evokes the majesty and jeopardy of these ancient civilizations, and asks what it might have felt like for a person alive at the time to witness the end of their world.

An interesting look at history
Revisado: 03-21-25
The narration was so slow I had to increase the playback speed to 1.5 to be able to enjoy it. Other than that I enjoyed it.

Historia
Superintelligence asks the questions: What happens when machines surpass humans in general intelligence? Will artificial agents save or destroy us? Nick Bostrom lays the foundation for understanding the future of humanity and intelligent life. The human brain has some capabilities that the brains of other animals lack. It is to these distinctive capabilities that our species owes its dominant position. If machine brains surpassed human brains in general intelligence, then this new superintelligence could become extremely powerful - possibly beyond our control.

Interesting topic, poor narration.
Revisado: 11-23-24
The narrator spoke at a droning pace, I had to set the playback speed to 1.20 to make it sound natural. Also it sounded like the narrator was speaking into a cone the entire performance.

Amazing concept and Ray Porter!
Revisado: 07-28-23
This book opened my eyes to some many ideas, I'm definitely Wonder and Invention. Now that I have a way to express what I'm good at I can start to focus my career path in a more fulfilling way.
This is a great book, I'm going to start trying to get my team and managers to read this.
Also I was so happy when I heard Ray Porter's voice, I didn't realize he was the narrator. Some of my favorite book series are read by him, and at this point I'd listen to that man read the phone book, it's like listening to an old friend read to you.

To many mispronunciations
Revisado: 06-03-23
Interesting book, with some great stories. While the author didn't do a horrible job narrating, her mispronunciations throughout the book were annoying and pulled me out of the story. I do wish authours would stick to writing and let professional narrators do their job.

Historia
Between 1959 and 1989, Soviet scientists and officials made numerous attempts to network their nation - to construct a nationwide computer network. None of these attempts succeeded, and the enterprise had been abandoned by the time the Soviet Union fell apart. Meanwhile, ARPANET, the American precursor to the Internet, went online in 1969. Why did the Soviet network, with top-level scientists and patriotic incentives, fail while the American network succeeded? Find out.

It was an interesting story, the only problem I have with it was the narrator. The narrator was dry and monotone I almost thought it he was an A.I.

Historia
The year is A.D. 922. A refined Arab courtier, representative of the powerful Caliph of Baghdad, encounters a party of Viking warriors who are journeying to the barbaric North. He is appalled by their Viking customs - the wanton sexuality of their pale, angular women, their disregard for cleanliness...their cold-blooded human sacrifices. But it is not until they reach the depths of the Northland that the courtier learns the horrifying and inescapable truth.

Historia
Against all odds we have made it into the last half of the 1990s. The Cold War looks solved, Arabs and Jews are talking, confrontation is on the wane. In this new harmony, one discord - what becomes of unemployed terrorists? You can bet they aren't going to retire quietly. Shunned by the Soviets, isolated by Middle Eastern realignment, one cadre hits on a scheme to jump-start the war machine. It's brilliant in its simplicity. With a single act they bring the world to nuclear boil. Jack Ryan and Dan Murray sweat to defuse a cataclysmic response.

Historia
The New York Times best-selling author heralds the future of business in Free. In his revolutionary best seller, The Long Tail, Chris Anderson demonstrated how the online marketplace creates niche markets, allowing products and consumers to connect in a way that has never been possible before. Now, in Free, he makes the compelling case that, in many instances, businesses can profit more from giving things away than they can by charging for them.
