Historia
Camford, 1920. Gilded and glittering, England's secret magical academy is no place for Clover, a commoner with neither connections nor magical blood. She tells herself she has fought her way there only to find a cure for her brother Matthew, one of the few survivors of a faerie attack on the battlefields of WWI which left the doors to faerie country sealed, the study of its magic banned, and its victims cursed.

I think this one will stay with me for awhile.
Revisado: 04-25-25
I'm not sure what to say about this title. I eagerly await every new title from HG Perry- she has a remarkable talent for revisiting old ideas or historical events and bring a fresh perspective to them. This novel was no different; the pace was much slower than previous stories but it also has a tremendous depth to the characters and is absolutely worth listening to. The narrator was perfect.

An adult romance
Revisado: 04-18-25
I liked that the main character had depth and, while there were some spicy moments, it was much more about building a relationship. Solid storyline and wonderful narration.

Historia
Lady Theodosia Balfour has certainly gotten the short end of the stick—her stepsister, the newly crowned Princess Beatrice, is telling everyone in polite society that Theo, her sister, and their mother are evil, wicked, and horrid people who treated her like a slave. Though Theo knows this isn't exactly true, it seems her life is thoroughly ruined by the rumor. With the Balfour family estate on the verge of bankruptcy, Theo's only path forward is a forced betrothal to the Duke of Snowbell, a foul-tempered geezer who wishes only to use her as a brood mare for spare heirs.

Revisado: 03-29-25
It takes a while to find it's rhythm but there is surprising depth to this story line; Theodosia starts out being immensely unlikable and ends up a wonderful heroine that you can't help but root for. I look forward to the next installment.

They changed the narrator
Revisado: 03-20-25
It's a solid story but the narrator changed between the first & second novel in the series & she is not as skilled as the original narrator; I creasing the speed to 1.2 helps.

Historia
A gunslinger with four affinities is a myth. It's the kind of story whispered in frontier saloons one drink before closing and around campfires in the dead of night. For the heroes and villains in those tales, that impossible power is a boon, a gift. For Mr. Jones, it's a curse. Of course, that's not his real name. He's had many. Changing names is necessary when you possess a power that every lawman and outlaw would kill to obtain. To survive, you keep your head down, kill when you must, and never stay in one place too long.

Historia
King George IV is petitioning Parliament for a divorce from his queen on the grounds of her adultery. But rumor has it that the king secretly married Maria Fitzherbert—long before he married the queen. Now Mrs. Fitzherbert has been robbed—and she's frantically calling on Rosalind for help. Because what those thieves took is proof that she and King George did really marry. That single piece of paper could destroy Mrs. Fitzherbert and her family—or it could prove the king guilty of bigamy.

Plot for this novel was more typical for the series, so that was a pleasant surprise. Still not a fan of the narrator; words still mispronounced, inflections still odd.

Disappointing
Revisado: 12-31-24
In any series that continues for awhile, eventually one installment will be a disappointment...that was this book for me. The plot seemed contrived and thin; the narration was full of odd inflections and mispronunciations. Nothing about this title was of the caliber I have come to expect from this author or series.

Historia
Meet Laszlo, eight-hundred-year-old demon and Hell’s least productive Curse Keeper. From his office beneath Midtown, he oversees the Drakeford Curse, which involves a pathetic family upstate and a mysterious black monolith. It’s a sexy enough assignment—colonial origins, mutating victims, et cetera—but Laszlo has no interest in maximizing the curse’s potential; he’d rather sunbathe in Ibiza, quaff martinis, and hustle the hustlers on Manhattan’s subway.
