This is a very special treat. It is so hard to find bible stories for children that teach the lessons I want my son to learn. I believe in Jesus and his teachings of love, selflessness, forgiveness and devotion to God. I do not believe in the old testament stories about a wrathful and genocidal god. If you do, I guess that's fine. Lots of people do, and there is certainly no shortage of "bible stories for kids" about drowning a globe full of people or murdering Egyptian babies. Personally, I believe these are irreconcilably contradictory notions of God. Maybe I'm wrong. Either way, I would highly recommend also exposing your child to the Jesus side of Christianity, and for that purpose, I have found no better source. Believe me, I've looked around a lot lately. Keillor's performance is outstanding. His narration is understated and reverent without dragging a bit. Jason Root's retelling of the highlights from the Gospels is totally on point, and concise enough for even a small child's attention span. I can't praise it enough. I even plan to recommend this audiobook to some non-Christian friends of mine who mistakenly believe, as so many do these days, that the Bible is all about judgement, antiquated rules, misogyny and gay bashing, which it's not. In fact, that's pretty much the exact opposite of the tenets Jesus preached, and this book illustrates that point beautifully.
