Historia
In 1972, when workers in Pottstown, Pennsylvania, were digging the foundations for a new development, the last thing they expected to find was a skeleton at the bottom of a well. Who the skeleton was and how it got there were two of the long-held secrets kept by the residents of Chicken Hill, the dilapidated neighborhood where immigrant Jews and African Americans lived side by side and shared ambitions and sorrows. Chicken Hill was where Moshe and Chona Ludlow lived when Moshe integrated his theater and where Chona ran the Heaven & Earth Grocery Store.

Best Narration I’ve Heard in Years
Revisado: 01-18-24
What I most enjoyed about this story was the humanity, compassion, and deep glow of joy that shone through its darkest moments. Even though I greatly enjoyed the story, it was the narration of it that really brought this one to life for me. I can’t recall a better listening experience.

Very easy, accessible strategies
Revisado: 01-04-24
I appreciated the wide variety of ideas Albers offers for soothing one’s self without food. Her tone is positive, encouraging, and affirming, which leaves you feeling inspired. At times her commentary feels a bit redundant, but I think there was also something helpful about hearing some of those things a few extra times—almost like a mantra.
If you or someone you care about is struggling with emotional eating, I would definitely recommend giving this book a try.

Pema: Radiant and Inspiring
Revisado: 08-07-18
Pema's presence, sense of humor, and wisdom radiate in these teachings. I listened to them during a particularly difficult time in my life while packing my home and preparing for a significant life change. I not only finished the teachings with feet and heart more steadied, but I was ready to listen to them all over again, believing wholeheartedly I would hear something new in the next listen. In that way, they reminded me of my favorite books. Pema's accessible style also gave me a sense that I was in the company of an old friend. I would highly recommend these teachings to anyone looking for a greater sense of calm and balance, and some laughter along the way too.

Historia
Terry Tempest Williams's mother told her: "I am leaving you all my journals, but you must promise me you won't look at them until after I'm gone." Fans of Williams's iconic and unconventional memoir, Refuge, well remember that mother. She was a member of a large Mormon clan in northern Utah who developed cancer as a result of the nuclear testing in nearby Nevada. It was a shock to Williams that her mother had kept journals. But not as much of a shock as what she found when the time came to read them.

I want to buy a copy for every woman I know. I want to buy a copy for every lover of words. This is poetry. This is a gift.
Revisado: 08-28-16
I own a hard copy, but it was such a pleasure to hear Terry read her own work through the Audible version that I would recommend listening to it before reading it.
A pure gift! I listened to the whole book in one day.
