Bret makes history so warm and real. This is not a topic I would expect to find interesting at all and I couldn't wait to listen to more.

Any additional comments?

I learned a lot listening to this book. It gave me a better understanding of this period of history in eastern Canada, and also helped me appreciate the Huron's deep connection to the natural world. The book is VERY explicitly violent, which I did not like, but the culture of the Iroquois and Hurons was very violent and the book just presents that reality. The author does a great job of character development. Naration is excellent.

Have you listened to any of Rosalyn Landor’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Rosalyn Landor always does a great job.

Any additional comments?

Just couldn't get past the first hour of this book. It was confusing, poorly written, and uninteresting for me.

Any additional comments?

Powerful book. I remember well when Elizabeth went missing. My pretty blond daughter was nearly her age. It hit too close to home. I was thrilled when Elizabeth was found, but worried that she would never fully recover. Over the years it became clear that she had recovered well and I often wondered about the inner strength that sustained such a young innocent girl victimized by such evil. I longed for insight but did not want to read something that reeked of voyeurism. Elizabeth has managed to write a book that captures the experience superbly without the reader feeling intrusive. But not only that, it will give you much food for thought and change the way you look at scruffy beggars for the rest of your life. Elizabeth does a great job of narration as well. An inspiring read. Strongly recommended.
