Historia
These thirteen stories are our own lives, inside out. A boy's summer romance doesn't end in that good kind of heartbreak, but in blood. A girl on a fishing trip makes a friend in the woods, except then that friend follows her back to the city. A father hears a voice through his baby monitor that shouldn't be possible, but now he can't stop listening. From prison guards making unholy alliances to snake-oil men in the Old West doling out justice, these stories carve down into the body of the mind, into our most base fears and certainties, and there's no anesthetic.

Excellent Collection

Ignore the nay-sayers, especially the one-star review. This collection is definitely worth a credit.

Nice Surprise
Revisado: 11-06-21
Figured I'd take a chance on this short anthology, given that the price was less than $10. I was also curious to hear the Laird Barron story. I was very pleasantly surprised by the entire collection. Very strong selection, with first-rate narration. Highly, highly recommended.

Historia
One day, it starts raining-and never stops. Global super-storms decimate the planet, eradicating most of mankind. Pockets of survivors gather on mountaintops, watching as the waters climb higher and higher. But as the tides rise, something else is rising, too. Now, in the midst of an ecological nightmare, the remnants of humanity face a new menace, in a battle that stretches from the rooftops of submerged cities to the mountaintop islands jutting from the sea. What hope does an already-devastated mankind have against this new supernatural adversary.

Whistling tooth. And I don't mean a soft whistle either. I listened to this in bed and the whistling actually startled my wife out of sleep.

Any additional comments?
Good audio book, except for the mother's character. The actress who plays her sniffles and slurps her way through the performance. Seriously: sniffle, sniffle, slurp, slurp, sniffle, slurp, sniffle, sniffle, sniffle, slurp. I once saw my grandfather take out his false teeth at the dinner table. Listening to the mother was slightly less gross than that. But only slightly.

Historia
It's been one year since a virus triggered junk DNA and people all over the world started changing, becoming something else, craving blood. It's been 10 months since the word vampire stopped being something from old monster stories and Hollywood movies. It's been six months since our world and theirs erupted into war, two since an uneasy peace was signed, and one hour since that peace was shattered. The war is here again - the vampire war.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Yes. Because, near the end of the collection, the character of Harry Chamberland is performed by the beloved 1970s cartoon altruist Fat Albert. Albert was able to empathize with various outcasts because his own weight problem made him something of an outsider. Hence, he functioned as the conscience of his peer group.
What did you like best about this story?
I really enjoyed how the Chamberland story reminded me of the home-made musical instruments played by Fat Albert and his neighborhood friends. Such innovations proved that they could not be oppressed by their dire economic situation.
Which character – as performed by the narrators – was your favorite?
Harry Chamberland, obviously.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Yes, because I model myself after Fat Albert, who always made the best of what he had. Therefore, I "wanted" nothing more after listening to this book.
Any additional comments?
Hey, hey, hey. Let's go watch the Brown Hornet, fellas.
