Historia
If anyone could be considered a Russian counterpart to the infamous British double-agent Kim Philby, it was Oleg Gordievsky. The son of two KGB agents and the product of the best Soviet institutions, the savvy, sophisticated Gordievsky grew to see his nation's communism as both criminal and philistine. He took his first posting for Russian intelligence in 1968 and eventually became the Soviet Union's top man in London, but from 1973 on he was secretly working for MI6.

Fiction Couldn't Be More Gripping

Just read it. You will forget that this is a true story since it reads more like a great spy novel.

Historia
On September 11, 1999, humanity made a monumental discovery in the vastness of space. Scientists uncovered an asteroid of immense scientific importance—a colossal celestial entity. As massive as an aircraft carrier and towering as high as the iconic Empire State Building, this cosmic titan was later named Bennu. Remarkable for much more than its size, Bennu belonged to a rare breed of asteroids capable of revealing the essence of life itself. But just as Bennu became a beacon of promise, researchers identified a grave danger.

The "Interludes" Must Go
Revisado: 10-20-24
This title is interesting with some great science and a human journey. However, the "interludes" are extremely hokey. They interrupt the story a half dozen times with a weird anthropomorphic side story of two carbon atoms seeking to rejoin each other from across the solar system. To make it worse, the voice and Twilight Zone background noises are awful. I probably would have rated the book a 4* if not for these interludes. Also, the "it couldn't just happen" nature of the many coincidences leading to life on earth makes me more convinced of an intelligent design.

In this tour de force of dramatic storytelling, distilled from extensive research in newly discovered primary sources, James D. Hornfischer brings to life the campaign that was the fulcrum of the drive to compel Tokyo to surrender—and that forever changed the art of modern war.

Need maps!
Revisado: 08-13-24
This was a book about a part of the war that is not written about as often as Midway or Pearl harbor. The author is a very good writer, but maps would have made the book a lot more easy to follow.

This great time capsule of a book captures the abundant popular history of the United States from 1932 to 1972. It encompasses politics, military history, economics, the lively arts, science, fashion, fads, social change, sexual mores, communications, graffiti...everything and anything indigenous that can be captured in print.

Before he was the Gray Man, Court Gentry was Sierra Six, the junior member of a CIA action team. In their first mission, they took out a terrorist leader, at a terrible price. Years have passed. The Gray Man is on a simple mission when he sees a ghost: the long-dead terrorist, but he's remarkably energetic for a dead man. A decade of time hasn't changed the Gray Man. He isn't one to leave a job unfinished or a blood debt unpaid.

Good But Confusing
Revisado: 05-24-22
Story was exciting and well written; however, the twelve years ago to today constant switching was confusing since the plots from both periods were overlapping and similar. I usually do fine with flashbacks, but this was a bit more difficult.

Many people in reviews complain about the use of the first person in this book. I will admit it's a distraction that I finally got used to. but the story is still excellent. Go for it.

In this 36-lecture course, you'll find an engaging way to explore profound religious questions and the many responses believers, scholars, and theologians have developed over more than 2,000 years. Through this series, Professor Cary reveals the enduring power of the Christian tradition-as both an intellectual discipline and a spiritual path. These lectures begin at the very dawn of Christianity, as you examine some of the earliest examples of scripture recorded by the first communities of the faithful.

Even-Handed, Christian Overview
Revisado: 04-08-22
First of all, let me say that this was written by a believer unlike some of the other Great Courses theology lecture series. I saw some Catholics complain on their reviews that this was biased against Catholicism, but I did not find that at all to be the case. I think he states he is Protestant, but he is careful to point out fallacies in people's minds about what Catholicism teaches. I think it is a very fair, objective treatment of the subject.

Nehemiah, the young son of a Jewish woman, a weaver from Jerusalem, is born and raised among the Jews who didn't return to Jerusalem from the Exile. Educated by Rabbi Kagba, one of the magi present at Jesus' birth thirty years earlier, Nehemiah grows up with the expectation of a soon-coming Messiah. Could the Yeshua of Nazareth, who is walking the earth, reportedly doing miracles, be that Messiah? When young Nehemiah must travel the long caravan road to Jerusalem, he is charged with an unusual mission...

Not For Me
Revisado: 03-25-22
I normally enjoy fiction set in the time of Christ. This one was too focused on weirdness (mysticism, coincidences, etc.) to be enjoyed. if you want a serious book about life in this time and place, I'd look elsewhere.
